Arafat's Death
Several times on the radio I heard them say that he died from a "mysterious" illness. Earlier I had heard it said that he might have been poisoned. Evidently, his liver was ot functioning, which leads me to belive it could have been poisoning. Also, before his death I read something about how the Bush administration would rather not have to deal with Arafat. Can't remember where I read it. Can anyone comfirm for me these facts?

1. Just guessing..
..he could have been valium poisoned. Its a classic age old way of slowly eliminating prisoners in jail. But then again I don't know.

8. He was 75.
We don't know much about his diet or personal habits. Maybe he was a good observant Muslim, or maybe he was like a lot of them with a personal liquor stash in other kinds of bottles. We don't know. Did he smoke?

He lived a tense existence which in itself takes a huge toll. He had to worry about deliberate assassination, or accidentally getting caught in a crossfire....not only from the Israelis but the young Turks of his own people. No way that's healthy.

Oh, and he had appropriated billions of dollars intended for the welfare of his people (for their own good, I'm sure), and we know he didn't spend it on his wardrobe. What WAS his favorite indulgence? Was it apple pie or something more forbidden? We have no clue.

Poisoning is a very dangerous idea, because poison has to be introduced by those close to you. It is possible that the opposition is introducing this claim to dislodge Arafat's own people from power, since they were the only ones who could have done it.

5. His doctor said it was poison
Arafat's doctor says poison likely cause of Arafat' death, calls for autopsy

JAMAL HALABY

AMMAN, Jordan (AP) - A leading Jordanian neurologist who regularly examined Yasser Arafat said on Friday that poisoning was the "highest" probable cause of the Palestinian leader's mysterious death and urged that an autopsy be performed.

11. Jordanian, huh?
Now why would the Jordanians want Arafat's old pals out of power, I wonder?

Remember, poison can't be introduced from a distance. It's the weapon of up close and personal betrayal.

Casting suspicion on those closest to Arafat (his natural heirs) is a way to destabilize their claims to power.

I have huge questions about this doctor. If he's so close to Arafat, why wasn't he called in on this illness? Which, of course, may well be why he's suspicious.

Tasty. Nasty. The shakeout begins.

7. Who gives a crap?
He's dead (maybe). He sucked as a leader and gave cover to his enemy; RIP.

9. Could they have slipped poison into his medication?
Maybe and Sharon kept threatening to kill him. However, he seemed to have major health problems as well.

12. It would mean there was a traitor in his personal entourage.
Which is the accusation that outsiders would make to try and unseat the entourage before they can inherit the mantle of power. They aren't entitled to reign in Arafat's stead if they killed him.

Hope Israel stays out of this. It looks like it might be highly entertaining in an I, Claudius kind of way.
