New DU group proposal - Wes Clark

I would like to propose a Wes Clark forum. This would be to discuss what assests Clark can bring to the Democratic community. It will discuss his television appearances, speeches and a possible future run for political office. It will also keep readers informed of WesPac activities and those causes important to Wes Clark and his supporters.

why not also a seperate group for each of Dean, Kucinich, and while we're at it, Kerry?

Why not a group to discuss what assets other democrats can bring to the dem party? why only for Clark, wouldn't that be that overdoing it a bit? Would it not be appropriate to discuss it in the forum "General Discussion: Politics"?

A Kerry forum, Kucinich forum, Dean forum, Edwards forum, Sharpton forum, Clinton forum, etc.

We have to stop this shit. If you want to work with WesPac, go do that. I intend to work with Kerry people to better articulate traditional Democratic Party values myself. But there's plenty of opportunity to post activities without dividing the Democratic Party even further. Half the problem in this election was so many factions that never truly united, factions that sometimes said John Kerry stood for things that were the polar opposite of his actual views. No wonder the middle of the roaders didn't trust us.

11. I don't think WesPAC's intent was ever to undermine other Democrats or
other Democratic initiatives, goals, projects, thinktanks, PACs, etc. I can understand concern that the DU groups divide us; but I don't think they will if they are not competing or opposing each other.

Let's see what the Admins decide.

And I'm not really referring to Wes Clark either. I think it's great for people to continue to be involved in all kinds of Democratic projects and think tanks. I just think we ought to be able to bring those ideas back to DU without the attached loyalty to one specific person. It seems kind of Bush-like, actually. That's just my 2 and yes the Admins will decide.

If the vegitarians and the astrologers can have a forum then the Clark supporters ( or Edwards ) can suggest one as well.

To me it's more "Bush-like" to insist we only follow one same leader, or none. There are lots of Democrats who inspire different people, and that seems okay to me. But I will understand too if the Admins prefer we use separate forums for that, especially if it seemed like competition or opposition might arise.

To have complete forums dedicated to persons instead of issues "could" be divisive or not constructive. I am at first impression against "person" forums, especially those dedicated to our latest candidates ... and forums which could split the party - and we saw a great divide throughout 2003-04. It likely still exists.
Having said that, if the Admins approve this forum I would participate since Wes was my favorite along the campaign trail.

I'm not exactly sure how to write a mission statement, but maybe something like...

The purpose of this group is to discuss General Wesley Clark and WesPAC, specifically:
- The assets and ideas Clark brings to the Democratic party;
- Clark's appearances, interviews, speeches, and writings;
- Increasing support for WesPAC and its activities;
- Possible future campaign for General Clark;

Please add your ideas.

and then supporters of other candidates can propose their special forum too (and it will happen), but this is not a bad thing. If supporters can go someplace without having their threads hijacked,ect it might actually foster a more civil atmospher on DU.
