Saving Democracy SUCKS! I need $35K RIGHT NOW -- Anybody here rich?
We are having an "issue" with the Nader folks; they want to "know" the funds for the New Hampshire recount -- but they are leery about taking money from either a 527 (HelpAmericaRecount.org) or a 501(c) or any other combination of numbers and letters such that I'm getting REALLY pissed off -- they are also being cagey about how much money they have received thus far in donations, and there is an issue about the Trust that was put together as a work around -- you folks have NO IDEA how much of a pain this whole thing has been --

AND THE DEMOCRATS WITH THEIR $53 MILLION ARE NO WHERE TO BE FOUND!!!

So, bottom line, I need someone to write a check for $35,000 to the Ralph Nader campaign RIGHT NOW -- the check can be held for ten days while donations are being solicited to the campaign, and I am confident the money can and will be raised -- but these people want "proof" they are going to be covered -- SO I'M ASKING --

Anybody here RICH? Anyone got that kind of money laying around? I offered to put a lien on my house, and my husband flat out told me he would divorce me if I did it -- we don't have $35K lying around --

HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP -- PM ME, PLEASE!!! I am SO FRUSTRATED AT THE MOMENT!!!

Oh Ida. Damn. No unfortunately I dont have 35K***

Have you talked directly with the Democratic party? THis makes me sick.

I would contact Bev Harris and let her know that the Democratic party is not helping at all. Im sure someone from Blackbox is monitoring the website.

I call bulls*** on the Nader campaign. They are stalling for some reason and it doesnt make sense.

30. The DNC has been the next best thing to useless through out this process.
Let me rephrase that -- they HAVE been useless! I think they are so busy gearing up for "why did we fail" that they didn't bother to notice THEY DIDN'T FAIL. Assholes. (I'm in a mood at the moment. I'll apologize to them later, when I don't find them completely useless!) ARGH!

but i am not giving 35k to anyone for anything.

3 people write a check for 10k and one person for 5k

i would think that would be easy, but where is the guarentee. and not in anyway suggesting i would do it. just exploring thought. i owuld think at this point for what you share about nader, and how easy it would be for him to do that, and his playing games with this, i think i am more to, i dont htink he is serious, i would be looking a different direction than depending on this man. nada from kerry? i just dont believe nader

32. The original plan was for some "big donors" to write checks
to Nader that were "held" by the lawyer while the donations came into the campaign, so they wouldn't have to be used. There has been much dancing around getting that done, however, and the "big donors" are understandably leery about the whole thing. I'm leery about the whole thing! I just want my frickin' recount!

26. UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE -- Nader folks say they ARE doing it --
They just need more money, so they are a) committed to doing it, and b) needing the money ASAP. I'm getting so frustrated with this nonsense, its not even funny -- I'm trying to get through to the Randi Rhodes people -- if anyone else can do it, please tell them to send money to www.votenader.org and specify its for the RECOUNT!

The first $2K is a deposit, the rest is going to cost $35K+ and that is where the confusion keeps coming in because they are worried about taking money from the wrong places --

83. yes, that's what Rosie O'Donnell said about the 9/11 fund-raising.
She donated $1 million to the fund for the families, and then publicly spoke out about the celebs "asking the peasants for pennies" in her words. I'm appalled these celebs are not opening up their wallets.

And Angelina Jolie is involved in charities in several countries, I heard her say the other day that she had a fund-raising party for victims of land-mines in Cambodia, she spent $2000 hosting the party and raised $4000. She said "I know what kind of money these people make, I know what I make, so now I just give my own money" instead of trying to raise it through charity. I have always thougt it was funny how these folks pay $500 to $1000 for a plate at a charity ball and show up in a $20,000 gown dripping in a million bucks worth of jewels.

I can't give anything 'til monday when my check goes through, credit cards are maxed out.

This is absolutely insane. I just want a frickin' recount, but apparently there is disagreement about how the campaign finance laws work, and where you can get money from, and who has to pay for it, and what 527s can give for, and what 501c(1-4)s can do, and JUST RECOUNT THE DAMN BALLOTS!!! ARGH!!!

60. How much have they collected?
Hi Ida,
Okay, is there a way Nader could put on his site, where they are at for collecting the $35,000.00 As reading the previous posts, we are all so strapped for $$$. You bet I will donate $$ for it, but it would be so helpful to see how their fund raiser is going for the needed $35,000.00

Do I understand then, that Nader will write the check for $35,000.00, then it is up to all concerned to donate to the cause?

Also, what if one of us let Olbermann know about this, couldn't he donate on his own???

What about those rich movie stars who came out to vote for Kerry? I can't believe that they are so stuck on memorizing their lines that they are completely unaware of all of this. If you are a movie star reading this, take note: the little people like us, little Democrats, pay good money to make you totally rich. Now it is your turn to put up a little money. Please help to fund this investigation into the election. Thanks.

I know how passionate and hard you have worked, but I wondered why Nader did not use his own money in the first place. Seriously.

I'm so glad someone out there with big deep pockets is listening to us little guys out here. I was literally going crazy trying to figure out which bills I could put off for another week.
Man, I hope this really happens now and we get the recount.

73. Is there anywhere we can donate by paypal?
Is there anywhere we can donate by paypal?

I would like to chuck in $30 but it would be much easier to do it that way as I have no CC.

77. I am not allowed to contribute to Nader - And no paypal anyway
Hey Ida,

Congrats BTW.. still trying to make my contribution. It may prove hard though.

On the Nader Site
-- " I am a United States citizen or a permanent resident alien."

Can't really tick this box. Plus they do not in fact have a paypal.com account. Perhaps someone trustworthy who does can collect some money on your behalf.. or you could get someone clued up in your campaign to set up one specifically (it costs nothing and takes about 15 mins). I expect that the need for money is going to continue and paypal is very accessible and is used by lots of net progressives to make charitible payments.
