WHY do conservatives think I am such a bad person?

Yes, I support equal rights for gays and I don't care much for church. But:

I'm a longtime blood donor - over 20 gallons
I've sent countless care packages to the troops
I sent 150 beanie babies to the Iraqi children
I donate lots to charity
I adopt a senior and a child every Christmas
I support the local food pantry and send clothes to Goodwill
I would never, ever turn down someone who needed help
I care about people who are poor, unemployed, have no health insurance
I'm a veteran who has WORKED MY ASS OFF.

WHY do they think I am IMMORAL??????

I am gay, of course, so I don't wonder quite so much as straight folk do. No morality or just plain acts of human kindness will ever be enough to make up for that, in their eyes.

I can tell you one thing I know from experience: at least for the fundy evangelical Christians among them, they think we're immoral because we haven't accepted Christ as our personal Savior.

If you stopped helpin' all those lazy assed people, they'd get off their butts and work for themselves. Why would they help people? We're all supposed to stand on our own right? We don't need blood donors, people should all have some of their own blood stored up just in case.

I'm new to DU, but not to the party, have just retired, and find myself classified as an 'evangelical'. For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would think of you as immoral. That's a bunch of hooey. From your description you would seem to embody the very principles that our party, the party of FDR & JFK, showed in their time as leaders of our country. A lot (maybe even most) of people who would call themselves 'christian' (& especially other 'evangelicals') take it upon themselves to make value judgments about other people...the height of hypocrisy! I guess my stance to those types of people would be just to say to them "stuff it". (apologize for my lack of tact)
