Republican connection to e-voting
These are all facts and no conspiracy. I'm going to just post the facts and leave out everything that could be considered conspiracy. Remember now I am not saying that they stole the election or rigged the election.

Diebold Board of Directors and GOP related contributions
http://ojingo.beerdrinker.org/index.php?p=140&c=1

Diebold’s Board of Directors, ( http://www.corporate-ir.net/ireye/ir_site.zhtml?ticker= ... ) are big time Republican Party supporters and financial backers.

Faun Otter ( http://www.bartcop.com/diebold.htm ) found what the Diebold Board of Directors had been contributing to the Republican Party over the past several years.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
only about 5 or 6 major players - and they are all controlled by Ultra-Right/Christian Extremists and Major Bush Supporters-
A common thread is that some came out of the Chalcedon Foundation, and one Company was given its seed money by Howard Ahmanson, who at one time was on the Board of Directors of the Chalcedon Foundation, a Christain Reconstructionist Group, who believes that the death penalty is due for behavior and acts which are against their Extremist beliefs. Ahmanson is not some benign Wacko, he and his brother inherited hundreds of millions from the Home Savings family business. Another Lucky Sperm. Read these pages, and Google the Names and Companies, it just keeps going.

Volusia County, Florida:
John Ellis, hired as an analyst for Fox TV News, knew exactly
the margin needed to call the 2000 presidential race for George W.
Bush. He was privy to the Voter News Service data, and he spoke
several times during the evening to his two cousins: Jeb and George
W. Bush.
At 2:09 a.m., the required vote margin appeared from Volusia
County, Florida. At 2:10 a.m., this margin was enhanced by a 4,000-
vote bump in Brevard County, and at 2:16 a.m., Ellis called the race
for George W. Bush. Within four minutes, NBC, CBS and ABC
followed suit. 5
Precisely the right margin appeared on a Volusia County machine
(Global Election Systems, now Diebold), amplified by a Diebold/
Global Election Systems machine in Brevard County. Unfortunately,
these vote totals were incorrect and soon disappeared, along with a
“card no. 3” which helped to create them.
If Al Gore had publicly conceded on election night, would we ever
have learned that these votes were bogus? Would there have been a
recount, and could the “Help America Vote Act” have passed, triggering
the rush to touch-screen machines?
We’ll never know, but thanks to an internal CBS report and a memo
written by Talbot Iredale, vice president of research and development
at Diebold Election Systems, we now know that the unexplained
replacement of a set of votes on a Diebold optical-scan machine in Volusia
County triggered a premature private concession from Al Gore to George
W. Bush and resulted in TV networks’ erroneously calling the election
for Bush instead of deeming it too close to call. The final “offical”
tally showed Gore losing by 527 votes, though the hand recount stopped
by the Supreme Court later gave the election to Gore.
Fox News Network, 29 November 2000: Brit Hume, host: “ ... It seems a
broken computer modem and a faulty memory card were culprits in the
erroneous election-night call of George W. Bush as the Florida winner ...
computers with a bad memory card caused it to appear for a time that Al
Gore had lost more than 16,000 votes, which seemed to put George W.
Bush up by 50,000 — at that stage in the night, an insurmountable margin.
Every network saw that as a basis for calling the state for Mr. Bush. ... ”

E-Voting Machines has a Halliburton/Cheney connection.

http://www.dissidentvoice.org/April2004/Landes0406.htm

Former President, Chief Operating Officer, and Vice Chairman of SAIC is Admiral Bill Owens, who is now Chairman of the Board for VoteHere. Owens also served as Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was a senior military assistant to Secretaries of Defense Frank Carlucci and Dick Cheney. Carlucci's company is Carlyle Group, while Vice President Dick Cheney's former employer is Halliburton.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
AMY GOODMAN on republican party connections

AMY GOODMAN: Bev Harris, what about the company Diebold? Can you talk about who they are, their connections to those in power, to the Republican Party?

BEV HARRIS: First of all you need to understand that the voting division of Diebold is a subsidiary. It used to go under the name of Global Elections Systems, out of Mckinney Texas, actually they were out of Canada but they called themselves out of Mckinney, Texas. Debold, what they did was they bought this small company in Texas and kind of, they didn't really merge it in particularly they just let it continue to run in Mckinney,Texas with all its same people, its same software and so forth. But the Diebold company itself is interesting, it does have very strong Republican ties, specifically to the Bush administration. They have a C.E.O. named Wally Odell He is a close crony of Dick Cheney, in fact just recently in July he had Cheney come to his house and he held a fundraiser for Cheney that raised $500,000. They have a board of directors member who is one of the Bush Pioneers. That is a small and elite group that gives huge amounts of money to the presidential campaign. This fellow's name is W.H. Timcan. You may remember that Bush had a trip to Ohio. In this trip indeed who he went to visit was Timkin and toured around in Timkin’s company, of course Timkin is also one of the directors of Diebold. And it just seems – the other thing that we noticed, we put together a spread sheet of the contributions that were made by Diebold and Diebold employees. And they have a really unusual pattern of contributions which ends up funneling literally hundreds of thousands of dollars to a few Republican candidates. Very little to any other party.

1. Just out of curiousity, are you a software engineer?
I am. The concept of the political contributions of a member of the board of directors having any relationship to the software that gets shipped is farcical. Ludicrous, nonsensical. Honestly. Diebold's a big company. There have been a lot of people, of various political stripes that have to have reviewed the code. I'd be willing to put money on it that no one who's ever seen the actual code has ever met ANY member of the board of directors. That's just not the way the industry works. Even if SOME (not all) members of the board of directors wanted to make the machines vote for *, they couldn't do it without LOTS of people knowing about it. It just isn't feasible...

3. That's true, but...
...the only reason to post those facts is to IMPLY conspiracy. The contributions of anyone at Diebold have no relevance to ANYTHING unless it's to imply that the code's crooked because they want the shrub back in the White House. And I'm telling you, as a software professional, that's it's just not possible, without a MASSIVE conspiracy, involving both re-thug-licans and democrats.

5. why is it so important to say it isn't possible so quickly?
Again all I'm posting is the facts. You are jumping up and down about the conspiracy. If people want to look into it this information is here for them to investigate. I took out the conspiracy stuff because of that very reason. I'm giving everyone else a chance to make up their own mind by investigating. I'm not saying the election was rigged or that their is a massive conspiracy.

Remember you are applying those words not me. All I am saying is here is a connection of invested interest into e-voting. We need to explore the background to see who these people are. Why are you so quick to jump to the MASSIVE conspiracy theory?

8. but your theory is the weak one, really
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 05:05 PM by m berst
But I think that your theory - "Lou Piniella headed to the Mets?" - is the one that people are really going to have hard time buying.

Really, get a grip.

Piniella? Going to the METS???? :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat: :tinfoilhat:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/index

This is all speculation without a shred of evidence. Until you can show me some proof about this, I am calling it bullshit.

Mets ownership thinks it needs to hire Lou Piniella as its new manager in order to get good public relations, for the battle of the back pages and Mike and the Mad Dog on the radio and the perception that the Mets really are doing things the right way.

The real reason the Mets need Piniella is that he is one person who will come in and tell Jeff Wilpon to keep his nose out of the business on the field, that they need to do what's right, not what's popular. Not that Jeff Wilpon is evil or stupid; he's absolutely not either. But he doesn't understand how to run a baseball business, and his leadership by choir -- where the general manager has no more voice than pro scouts, players, a pitching coach or PR maven Stu Sucherman -- has turned the Mets into a $100 million tenement compared to the team on the good side of the tracks.

The Mets totally botched the firing of manager Art Howe.

Piniella badly wants out of Tampa Bay, especially now that he knows owner Vince Naimoli is going to be in charge until 2007, in which time Naimoli's idea of adding payroll is $2 million, which will cover the cost of a Rocky Biddle-type player. But to lose Piniella would severely undermine any credibility the Devil Rays carry in western Florida, so odds are that Naimoli will agree to go from $29 million to $35 million and the Mets will have to hire an alternative, perhaps a proven winner like Jim Fregosi. Two years ago, when the Mets wanted Piniella while he was under contract to Seattle, the Mariners felt that there was tampering, demanded compensation and were bound and determined not to allow him to go to New York, settling on Randy Winn from the Devil Rays.

Speculation is human nature. We do it about everything, even baseball as I am pointing out.

There is a difference between having an intelligent conversation and comparing different points of view, and attempting to suppress any speculation about anything through the use of ridicule.

So, if people want to play "gotcha" and one-ups-manship, I would suggest that we do it about something relatively inconsequential like baseball, and let people honor the founding fathers' injunction to be ever vigilant when it comes to the vital subject of protecting our liberty from the enroachment of tyrants, without being beseiged by an army of self-styled de-bunkers.

Wouldn't you, as a patriotic American, agree with me on this?

Or do you perhaps feel that the track record of the current administration warrants a relaxation of our vigilance?

Vigilance requires speculation. If this administration were forthcoming, there would be no need for specualtion.

"A true patriot would keep the attention of his fellow citizens awake to their grievances, and not allow them to rest till the causes of their just complaints are removed. Our ship is in the hands of pilots who are steering directly under full sail to a rock. The whole crew may see this course to violate our liberties in full view if they look the right way." - Sam Adams 1771

Actually, I'm not so sure there aren't some Dems in on it since they've been so resistant, for the most part, to get involved. But some of them (e.g., Cathy Cox, Dem SoS of GA) were probably just bought off.

15. Pete doesn't know 'bunk'
Pete,

I am a professional software engineer and it sounds like you have no idea what you are talking about. It is easily possible that some of the Board Members at Diebold had some interesting meetings with some of their favorite engineers and planned the fix.

You just proved yourself wrong earlier when stating: "how many of the thousands of lines of code" did someone look at?

That's the point dude. It COULD be easy for a few insiders to write the scipts/SQL commands/patches to create all these irregularities without the general Diebold software group knowing about it. No offense, but I just find your agruments meaningless.

And I will be happy to direct you to some of my earlier arguments of how this is very possible.
