Were you in the "movement" in the '60's?
How many DU'ers were active in the movement way back when?
Are any of you remnants from the anti-war movement?
SDS?
Weathermen?

What state were you active in?
How much action did you see?
Did you suffer the consequences of your activism?

How many of us are "sweet survivors?"
What can we add to the current unrest we feel?

1. Active since 1966
SDS and then ,after arriving in California, various and sundry local groups doing various and sundry activities. We are still active in community projects after all these years!!

My only advice is to remain optimistic, set backs are to be expected and the only important battle is the next one!

5. very involved in sds
weathermen too violent.
washington state. best action-'74 stopped I-5 rush hour in seattle protesting nixon and war.
banished from my family
never stopped my personal revolution. raised three non sheep.at 48 i adopted 3 hispanic orphans aged 4,4&5. in other words, i created my own new family.
this current movement is a gathering of all ages, which makes it so much more powerful. we can add our experience and encouragement to never lay down for corrupt government. our battle took 10 years, 60,000 dead brothers. our accomplishments were grand. but apathy is what allowed this madness of today.

6. Heck, yes.
I know this sounds like a strange combination, but I was in Yippie, and also attended SDS meetings for a while. I never got active with SDS, though. Especially after they told us we all had to marry SDS'rs of the opposite sex, go work in factories, and infiltrate the working class. I thought it was ridiculous.

The Yippies usedbiting satire and street theater to make strong points about the War.

I went to my first anti-war demo in NJ in late 1969, and joined many marches in Washington DC and elsewhere: Newark, Philadelphia, NYC. I've run through more than one cloud of teargas, but was never a violent or destructive protestor. This period left me with a lifelong desire to improve the world and oppose racism and poverty. I never dreamed things could get worse than when we lived under Nixon, but now it's happened.
