Group Suggestion: Al Gore Democrats / Al Gore '08
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 06:10 PM by rabid_nerd
This group would discuss current events of Al and Tipper Gore and Family, any effort(s) to encourage Al Gore to run in 2008, indTV, Generation Fund, Apple, Google, The Environment/Earth in the Balance/The Day After Tomorrow, Family/Joined at the Heart, Al Gore's Tennessee Congressional and Senate Career, His Vice Presidency, His participation in the 2004 election and his continuing pioneering contributions to the public dialog.

http://www.algore-08.com/ (Formerly http://www.algoredemocrats.com/ )

- While many here say they're Dean Democrats, I am a Gore Democrat. I like Dean, but Gore came out before even Dean forcefully against the war, Gore did fight for the votes to the USSC (although no Senator backed him or the CBC up), and finally Gore did endorse Dean.

I ask for 10 contributor endorsements so I can move this to a forum.

On Edit: Some of the references changed URLs...
I fixed algore-08.com obviously...
AlGoreismypresident went down.. Post any you know of...

running again knowing full well it is rigged by the pugs. He would have to be insane!

12.  I've already been saying "Gore '08" to friends.
It was actually his concession speech in '00 that made me realize what a great president he'd be.

13. Politeness restrains me
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 01:07 PM by Ardee
.........Gore had a shot, he abandoned us after commencing a speaking engagment with blood and guts and passion, his time is past, I urge you to look ahead not behind.

It is a symptom of the weakness of the democrats that no really viable candidates can be found...of course four years is an eternity in politics...maybe a ticket of Obama and Salazar....(only half kidding)

edited for overly large thumbs

15. I don't think politiness restrained you enough
Gore didn't abandon us. He did everything he could short of starting riots in the streets. Maybe he should have done that too...but hindsight is 20/20.

But this is a thread about starting a Gore group, why answer if you are not interested?

20. I failed to note that immediately
Nevertheless you are incorrect in your statement that Gore didnt abandon us. He began that last campaign in SF. I was priviledged to be at the Commonwealth Club to hear his fire and brimstone speech, which drew a number of standing ovations. I was also shocked when, barely a fortnight later he withdrew from the race. That is abandonment to me.

Sorry if your personal beliefs color my attempts at polite discourse, but thats on you not me.

22. Deaniac, but would support Gore in 08
Works politically, believe it or not.

Gore:
Elder Statesman
Washington Experience
Foreign Policy Experience
Southerner
Former Nominee
Visionary

Dean:
Up and Comer
Domestic Experience
Northerner
Tactition and Visionary
Outsider, Assertive

Until Dean touched my heart, I was very much for drafting Gore in 04. To this day, I think that without Dean he would have been our best shot this year. The reason I heard that he withdrew this time was that certain DLC people told him that they would not finance his run. Too bad Trippi did not come out in time-Gore would definitely have been our nominee with the finance and campaign experience he had.

The Nixon analogy intrigues me. Remember Nixon lost in a disputed election in 1960 and won again in 1968 over a divided incumbent party. Could history be setting itself up for a similar repeat? Nixon won his second chance by supporting the party, giving speeches, and generally being active. Now Gore hasn't run for any other elective office, and Tennessee is too red to send him back to Congress, but he can certainly stay active and supportive.

Nice pic! Thanks for posting.

You all can count me in on the Gore Group. I like Al Gore and have really appreciated his speeches over the last couple years.

16. We need him in the Senate...forget 2008...We need him now. I'd support
any effort to get him to run...Even for the House...

He's given some great speeches that many DU'ers may have missed. I'd support some discussion about him in a forum. He's very involved in his TV station now, but "Mid-Terms" are coming.

I wonder if he's thought about it.

24. I still have my Draft Gore bumper sticker
He's in a class by himself. The Dems said they were looking for a religious candidate (Al is a Southern Baptist) from a red state (Tennessee) to run in 2008. Preferably this candidate would be from the South. I immediately thought of Gore!

The 2008 dream team: Gore/Dean.

25. The one thing we know about Gore
Edited on Sun Nov-14-04 09:24 PM by fujiyama
is that he won won Florida - and the election.

If he were to run I'd almost feel obligated to support him. While I'm not sure if this election was stolen, I know the previous one was.
