Can we have a homeschooling group?
I know there are some here who homeschool their children. I think it would be wonderful to have a homeschooler's group on DU that can come together with the purpose of sharing experiences, ideas, help, support and encouragement for fellow homeschooling DUers.

Please respond to this thread if you would like to be a part of such a group.

6. Good idea!
I do not homeschool, but gave it serious thought, especially for my son who is now in high school. When I was investigating it, I had to look long and hard to find a secular approach, maybe a discussion on it here could be a resource for those looking for that as well. Good luck!

11. Resources...
This is one of the main reasons why I think it would be a good idea. My daughter is now 14 years old and I've homeschooled her throughout. One of the benefits of living in San Francisco is the support of a large secular liberal/left group with info on good resources. Not everyone is so lucky.

9. I homeschool
I would be VERY interested in such a group. There are a great many DU'ers who assume that only Fundies homeschool and I grow weary trying to correct that misconception.

10. I'd be interested...
even though I don't homeschool. I'm so frustrated with my son's education that I may end up doing it so I'd be interested in hearing what other DUers have to say.

Newbie at DU, experienced homeschooler.

My daughter graduated from Beach High (self-directed independant study program) shortly before her fifteenth birthday and is off to college/work next week.

My twelve year old is still homeschooled. Always has been. Neither kid has even been enrolled in a day school.

We have been homeschooling for seven years now. We have two teens and we're closer to unschooling than I ever believed I would get when I first started.

I'd love to participate but since I own my own business I'm kind of erratic on this board. Feel free to pm me if you get a group started.

i've been working on this for the last few days, but being a newbie i can't post new threads so i'm attaching this where i can.

if anyone has new sources, please reply to my post and i will continue to compile the list.

i have contacted the local DFA group in the hopes of organizing a sign campaign. unfortunately, i have no resources but a lot of ideas, including a web site, bumper stickers and...

erecting 4'X 8' signs in high visibility locations in communities around allegheny county saying something like -

SENATOR SANTORUM
DON'T MOVE HERE
WE CAN'T AFFORD YOU

we need to act now. we can't wait two years to start our campaign against santorum. strike while the iron is hot!

if anyone in the pgh area is interested in this please contact me at erd15216@comcast.net
