How can we win over the next four years?

While I sincerely hope that something is going to come out of the blue and make this nightmare go away I want to plan to live "around"
Bush. I mean having him and his goofball policies touch my life as little as possible. I know that there are many highly intelligent people who post here. What I am asking for is information on how to invest what moves to avoid and how to survive in the long run.
I firmly believe that living well, even if that means living well frugally is the best revenge. My ideas are paying off any credit cards that have balances, paying my mortgage off early, hybrid cars.
Possibly buying some land. I really do not know which moves are best. That is why I am asking. Thanks in advance for any and all comments. This does not mean I will stop fighting for social justice. I just want my family to live and survive this awful regime in the best way we can and hopefully the comments will help others as well.
