It's 15 minutes into the program here in Minnesota, but it runs different times in different areas.

6. Just adding a "me too"
Sister Joan Chittiser rocks! She writes weekly articles, and is an excellent writer. Often of late in her articles she makes clear distinctions in the political process. What I really like though, is her ability to show integrity and how it differs from morality. They are discernible different, so we can be the Integrity-based left as opposed to the faith-based Christian right?? Ya think?

7. In my opinion
She articulated my beliefs (I am athiest) about abortion and killing better than any democratic candidate did during the entire campaign.

Why can't we have someone represent the democratic party that speaks like she does rather than Donna Brazile, who they seem to always put opposite Bay Buchanan.

13. Thanks for posting the link to the other thread.
When the program started I did a quick look for another thread about it but didn't see one.

I always really dislike threads that say "Oh wow, did you see...?" without posting any details, and didn't mean to do it myself.

But I also didn't want anyone missing out on catching NOW, since it was so outstanding. And then I couldn't type anything because I was so enthralled with what Sister Chittister was saying.

We need alot more of HER kind of Christianity countering the fundies. Bless her!

Christ's Sermon on the Mount
The text of St. Matthew runs as follows:

* Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 3)
* Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land. (Verse 4)
* Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Verse 5)
* Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. (Verse 6)
* Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (Verse 7)
* Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. (Verse 8)
* Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Verse 9)
* Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (

9. She talked about how important this is
and how underplayed it is by Christianity.
(Watching NOW via cable through San Antonio PBS. For some reason, my Houston PBS video is shot.)

5. She preaches New Testament values. That is what our politicians should do
Edited on Fri Nov-12-04 10:26 PM by PrpgndBrdcstingSystm
The RIghtwing is Old Testament, the cruel god of revenge and war and greed and power. THe New Testament is the quasi-socialist and loving religion, the religion that shames those that would exploit others and not help the poor.

We need New Testament politics to counter the neofascist Old Testament Right.

I am watching NOW right now here in houston. THat Nun just kicked ass. She has more religious feeling in one little finger than Bush has ever had in his life

11. Hi Eric!
PBS will have archived web video of this program up in one week. Otherwise, if you want to stay up late, TPT-2 repeats NOW at 2am, I think. (check the TPT-2 website to find out for sure) I may even stay up late to watch it again, it was an outstanding program!
