Why did Bush come out in favor of civil unions at the last minute
and in such an offbeat way? On Good Morning America?

Was it to trick the fundies? Get them mobilized then when it is too late to call off the troops, repent so he can say: "I didn't promise you I'd do away with civil unions."

Did Cheney make him change his mind?

Did rove tell him the issue was killing him in the polls?

It was so odd.

1. I suppose I really don't have a lot to say about this...
being a flaming heterosexual and all, but IMHO, any GLBT person that voted for Dear Leader deserves the years of misery they face.

As for the rest of you, the sane ones, see you on the barricades. The shoulder touching yours will be mine.

2. He was shilling for the moderate vote,
and for anyone that was against him based on gay marriage amendment alone. It's called insurance.

4. He thinks Kerry flipflops? At least Kerry only has 1 position at a time!
Bush has learned that he can say absolutely anything, even when it doesn't make any sense, and that 1/2 our country will still nod in approval.

3. because his campaign had coordinated with the
churches and this was his attempt to ward off civil war with the mods in his own party.

5. To get that idiotic segment of the GLBT community that would actually
be foolish enough to consider voting for him back firmly in his camp. It served it's purpose, I think the number I saw was 25% of the GLBT voting community voted for the chimp.
