Prophetic question
How many (if any) of you instinctively and inexplicably "knew" that if bshwipe were elected in 2000 that he would start a war?

11. I didn't realize it until his "Axis of Evil" speech. I was too focused on
his domestic policy nightmares.

BTW, speaking of corrections... Unless you didn't have enough room for the complete name, please add an "r" to the end of the man's name that you quoted in your sig line. The correct spelling is "Bonhoeffer".

7. me too...
It started with dad, but I believed that was not "the" war (Desert Storm). The hair rose on the back of my neck when Jr. ran for office. Worse yet I don't feel that this (Iraq) is "the" war either.

8. I said it. The Idiot Bush wants to get us in a 100 year war with the
Muslims. He sees himself as the Wholly Emperor sending us off to die in his new crusade. We have a sociopath Megalomaniac at the helm.

5. I predicted it the day the USSC shut the recount down
His grip on power was controversial and tenuous. I knew he'd need a war to consolitate his power. I thought for sure it would be Iraq, and didn't anticipate 9/11. Well, Afghanistan was a distraction, but he did get a war within a year and it did consolidate his power.

9. I knew many, many people would die or be harmed
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 04:18 PM by lawladyprof
Didn't know exactly how. Presidents make decisions and people live or die (decision not to go into Rwanda, Darfur, decision to go into Kosovo). That is the nature of great power and high office. But I knew to an absolute certainty that people would die BECAUSE Bush was in power, that he would be the "but for" the cause of many, many unnecessary deaths. Like so many DU'ers and progressive folk, I felt and continue to feel like Cassandra. It was and is tormenting.

It near drove me mad to watch all the prattling on of the commentators (earth tones, anyone?) when the stakes were so high for so many.

10. I wrote something that I'm still trying to locate
on the eve of the election in '00, that predicted that he'd trash our surplus and take us to war. Never did I ever think he'd do either of those things with such unbelievable unconsciousness or extreme incomptence though.

12. Of course. But seriously, which was the last President who didn't?
Bush long ago exceeded my worst-case scenario, but doesn't every American President get to have a war or two? Carter's the last I can think of who didn't, and one of the few. No wonder he lost. What a wimp, eh?

13. The morning after the election our local radio DJs
on WDVE Pittsburgh were joking that Saddam Hussein was in for it now that George Sr was president. I remember feeling quite sick to my stomach because I just knew it was the truth.

16. Yep.
Actually, my wife was the one who articulated that belief. She said in 2000: "If George Bus is elected, our economy will be destroyed, conservative values will dominate American policy, and we will go to war."

I hate to say what she said this year:

"If Bush is re-elected, this country will go from bad to worse, and a third world war, complete with thermonuclear devastation, will ensue."
