Democratic consultants, listen up!
Edited on Sat Nov-13-04 08:24 PM by LTRS
First of all, it would be dandy if you would all just resign. You've led our leaders into the wilderness one time too many. Why they listen to you is a mystery. It might have something to do with the DC "inside the beltway" mentality. Yeah, all politicians are out of touch, that's why they need guys like you. Bummer for dems that THEIR party's consultants are out of touch too (only they are too out of touch to realize it). Sure, the rethug consultants are out of touch too, but they sure know how to fake it for Peoria.

We need a new game plan, and frankly, I don't have a craps worth of confidence in any of you. But since you won't resign (who cares what the base thinks, right? - which is the one of the main problem with you guys) here's some advice so you don't screw up as badly next time.

1. Enough with the "kumbaya, we don't want to say anything untoward" philosophy. Use the L word - as in lie. People will respect our candidates for their straight forward, no holds barred, aggressiveness. The rethugs abandoned the middle the moment Dubya was inaugurated. There aren't many of them and no one gives a shit what they think except pussy democrats. Besides, the L word gives us the chance to boldly tell the truth - they DO lie. Why are we afraid to say it? Don't be pussies about it. People don't vote for pussies any more and they haven't for 20 yrs. Hello?

2. Lie if you have to. Everyone thinks we do anyway because "all politicians lie, don't they?" And the rethugs have proved that it works, especially in the media. If you're gonna be tagged for lying, why not really lie? Because it's against our principles? Spare me. Let's worry about our principles once we take control and actually have the power to save this effin country. You don't have to lie much since the rethugs do so much of it. We could probably get by with telling the truth most of the time and lying the other 10%. Don't believe me? Exhibit A - the biggest liar in the history of our presidency is claiming a mandate. Lying sure seems to be working for them.

3. Get a clue that your base is eroding because you all talk a good game, but are too pussified to actually do anything for the people you claim to represent. Stop caving on union rights (homeland security), and DO SOMETHING for African Americans and Hispanics, and us gay people too if you can summon the balls. You know as well as I do that if you actually did more than pander to your base they would march in the streets to get our guys in office (and vote, too). And here is something exciting - you might get more of the mushy middle if you showed that you will stand up for what your lip service says you believe in -- EVEN IF those folks don't always agree with you. Again, isn't the "worst president ever" GW Bush proof enough of that? He sure as hell should be.

Will you get shot down in congress? Hell yes. Be bold. Obstruct. Kick some ass. Show that you have balls. Mainstream America LOVES that, even if they say they don't, THAT IS WHO THEY VOTE FOR.

4. It's YOUR fault that bigotry and hate have become mainstream American "values". You stood silent (see #1) while the right wing convinced us that hating people and saying F-you to the social safety net was a good 'ole American way to be. Fix it, goddammit! Fix it now, because we don't have any more time for you to mull it over and endlessly "calibrate" your (our) positions on the issue.

Values are putting people before corporations: health care for children; seniors who don't have to choose between food and medications; (and by the way, why are you NOT saying that it's shameful for the world's only superpower to be dismantling our social safety net and leaving seniors and children to fend for themselves?? What is MORAL about that?); faithful stewardship our our financial future - nothing moral about charging up your kid's credit card before they are born. Quote the bible if you have to -- it's all in there. And lots of people are swayed by it, even though their pastors, ministers, and preachers forget what is actually in it.

You think you are doing all of this now, but unfortunately you tell our candidates to drop the values message as soon as the rethugs attack. You cede values to them when you do that. Nobody ever won a fight by dropping their gloves.

If you could learn to be relentless instead of constantly calibrating we might just win one. Seriously. Give it a try.

Do you get my drift? I hope so. Get on it then! Before the worst president ever leads the entire world to the non-existent rapture all the loony right dreams of.

Thanks.

On edit: keep this kicked and give the folks who really run our party some advice of your own!

1. Be Liberal, be loud and love it.
The party has to awaken to the fact that only by being true to ourselves and standing for the progressive qualities which make us who we are can we retake the White House from the party of Greed, anger and hatred.
I am liberal and proud of it should be the motto of every candidate!

4. amen sista!
"moral values" about what some people do in the privacy of their own lives is so absurd when we are willing to let people die for lack of affordable medicine right here in the U.S.

Call a liar a liar, don't mince words - you are right on target here.
