I got your "liberal media" right here!
Countdown with Keith Olbermann, MSNBC, 8pm, Mon-Fri.

Rumor has it that his show is in danger of being cancelled (see the post here ) I wrote to him about his "vacation" entry in his blog (I think he's tickled to be the subject of a "conspiracy theory" - read it here ) and he replied (moment for fanswoon :loveya: ) that his reporting last week didn't seem to pull in a lot of viewers - and asked that we "spread the word."

We keep talking about how biased against liberals/progressives the cable news networks are. Oh, Aaron Brown will sometimes will sometimes throw us a bone. Even Chris Matthews (less frequently) will say something relatively supportive. And, of course, Lou Dobbs has been a bulldog on outsourcing... but not much else that could be considered a concern of the "left of center" crowd. Keith Olbermann has been a consistent voice for us - and has been absolutely outstanding in covering the "voting irregularities" story in the last week. We HAVE to support that with our viewership (and to a lesser extent, letters - I say lesser because it's eyeballs that really count with these people).

He's on vacation for the next week, but I intend to watch anyway... and whenever I feel the guest host is not up to Keith's standard, I'll write an email. Not a nasty one, just one that indicates my dissatisfaction with anybody but Keith. I also intend to keep track of advertisers, but I won't do anything about that list till he gets back. When he does, I'll see if the same companies are advertising, and look up contact info for posting here.

I hope everyone will join me in this "mission" to SAVE THE LIBERAL MEDIA (such as it is). Support Keith Olbermann. Send email, not just to him, but to MSNBC as well. And come 8 PM Monday through Friday, plunk your butt down and watch, unless you've got a note from your doctor or your undertaker.

Hope folks will keep this kicked for the west coasters! I gotta crash pretty soon - it's getting late here on the east coast - but I'll check in "last thing" and kick it if nobody else has.

2. He's on to something
That's why he's being forced off, he's getting too close to the truth of the matter. Even if this doesn't overturn the election, it will make BushCo and the GOP look like the slimeballs that they are for rigging the election.

5. He's not being forced off... read the blog
At least, not for this "vacation" that we were all worried about. As far as the possibility of being cancelled, Imus seemed to be saying that it was due to low ratings. (I don't know, I didn't see the show.) I suppose that could be a cover story, but if it is, we can't do anything about it. OTOH, if the problem IS low ratings, we CAN do something about that. I say, act on the assumption that we CAN do something about it, because if we watch and they cancel it anyway, we've lost nothing by trying. If we don't watch and they cancel it for low ratings, we blew it.

3. I've already written the man twice, with no return.
There's a fine line between supporting the man and stalking him. I'd write every day if it were to guarantee his show remained on the air, but with all this joking about pandering to the tin-foil-hat crowd, I'm not too sure that's a good idea. Might seem a little too desperate.

4. Related story...
... questions, actually. Why didn't he get good rating on that? And why is Murdoch suddenly so concerned about the new Nielsen rating system? Is it at all possible he suddenly cares about minorities?

Could it be that freepers somehow got control of the old diaries?

11. Not really related
First, I suppose Countdown's current ratings are based on the current system, and second, Murdoch is FOX. Countdown is on MSNBC.

12. It's related of Fox has control of the ratings
But it is possible he is really concerned about minorities.

Doubt it though.

6. agree
his is the only news program worth watching.

Still don't know how they know we are watching unless we tell them. Sometimes you wonder if the sponsors even care that much as long as they keep reaching the same few people every week they seem to be satisfied with that.

9. Yes, write to them...
it's the only way they can know if non-Nielson or Arbitron households are watching. It might pay to write to the sponsors as well, but I don't have a list yet - or even if he has any "sponsors" per se. It's possible that most of the advertisers are simply running "run of schedule" and have no idea where their ads will pop up.

8. He's not going to get canceled because of low ratings
His time slot is basically impossible anyway since he's up against Bill O'Reilly. If anything, I think Norville's show will get the ax.

10. Well, they have to put SOMETHING on
in that time slot. It's not like they're just going to leave it dead air, right? Might as well be Keith, because they KNOW all the so-called-conservatives are watching OhReally. When you're up against such a "powerhouse," counterprogramming is the only way to go.

14. well who the fuck watches Bill O'Reilly?
a bunch of brain - dead scumbags, that's who. The other 200 million people in the country might actually want to watch something other than that smug pompous self-masturbatory asshole.

16. I hope Norville does get cancelled ugggghh
She's like one of the only women I've seen with an Adam's apple type thing. I can't stop looking at it when she talks. shudder.
I know I could take a higher road but she's annoying.

I wish they would replace her with a liberal "bully" someone like Ed Schultz that isn't afraid of what people say and doesn't fear O'reilly. I mean c'mon 55 million people did vote democrat (plus the 3 million they siphoned off) so there is a market out there. One of these exec's needs to get a pair and put someone on that represents the other half of the country.

21. Watch and then write
to comment on something you saw... proves you watched it. We should probably also write to the advertisers... even though the Neilson ratings determine the cost of advertising on the show, they might be persuaded to buy ads without the so called "proof" that people are actually watching the show if they can see actual evidence from viewers.

It's a shame the Neilson's have such a hold on programming decisions by networks - who they give the box to can obviously skew the ratings, and there's no way to tell if those people are representative of the population.

23. Another thing we should do
spread the word with our non-DU buddies. Even as big as DU is, even if every DUer watched the show, it wouldn't be enough to move the ratings a single point (I think a rating point is approximately 1 million people). OTOH, a small, but loyal audience is worth a lot to advertisers - maybe not as much as a huge, but casual audience, but still, a lot.

Oh, and :kick: for the pre-show crowd!

Really, really hard to believe IMO. Olberman has low ratings but a idiot like Dead Intern Guy has high enough numbers to where its not a problem?? Sorry ain't buying that BS for a minute...
