Drilling in Alaska Ok'd
Cnn is just reporting.

So much for the polar bear's right to exist. Between the drilling and warming they probably are doomed. But who cares? Eh? They don't contribute to anything meaningful to us. They are expendable.

1. Who cares, polar bears don't vote
oh, but that's right, they don't need real voters anyway, they just steal the elections.

8. Polar bears could be decades from extinction
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=102&topic_id=978181

Polar bears could be decades from extinction, a survey into global warming has found. Steve Connor reports on the crisis that threatens the polar ice-cap

Polar bears, the biggest land carnivores on Earth, face extinction this century if the Arctic continues to melt at its present rate, a study into global warming has found. The sea ice around the North Pole on which the bears depend for hunting is shrinking so swiftly it could disappear during the summer months by the end of the century, the Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ICIA) says.

Scientists in the study believe the survival of the estimated 22,000 polar bears in the region is hanging by a slender thread as they suffer the double whammy of chemical pollution and dwindling feeding territories. Polar bears traditionally hunt on floating sea ice for seals and other quarry. But the ice has retreated significantly during summer, so the carnivores are having to swim further from one floe to another in search of quarry.

10. Wow, DECADES!!! Then why worry?!?!?!
I fail to be impressed by your news.

How about reaching sustainability, where NO SPECIES is in danger of extinction because humans are so ignorant, greedy, lazy and arrogant? That would mean something.

11. The polar bear is of little (immediate) concern
Onshore, the most important concerns are the four caribou herds (and the Gwich'in tribe which relies on the caribou for survival).

Offshore, the (endangered) Bowhead whales (and the primarily marine Inupiat tribe) are of concern.

However, the drilling isn't the MOTHER OF ALL BOMBS, it's the rising temperature in the permafrost, that correllates with rising temperatures due to global warming...the arctic is melting people.
