This isn't going anywhere good.....
Ok. Who else here is SERIOUSLY worried about where this country is going as one person after another resigns from the cabinet?

Colin Powell was the ONE calm voice on that panel. (As frightening as that is) Now he's out and it looks like Condi Rice may be his replacement. Yeah, like she'll do a good job.

Jesus.

This is really bad. REALLY bad. Add to that the turmoil over at the CIA...

Ok. perk me up. How are the Ohio recounts going?

1. NEW MEXICO: Ballot sorting finished - troubling
Ballot sorting finished

http://www.abqtrib.com/archives/news04/111104_news_vote.shtml

Clerk says final count is coming today

By Ed Asher
Tribune Reporter

November 11, 2004

Most of the rejected ballots - about 6,600 cast by voters who weren't
on the county's election rolls but thought they should be - were
thrown out because those voters weren't in fact registered.

Approximately 5,400 were found to be valid and will be added to the
tally today, Herrera said. The crew also qualified 353 overseas
ballots and 65 federal write-in ballots.

"Wow. That's a very high volume," Herrera said Wednesday night as she
estimated the rejection rate would exceed 50 percent. "This is way
over what's expected."

In addition to voter registration problems, some provisional ballots
from one precinct will prompt an examination. The batch showed that
all disqualified ballots were Democrat, and those that qualified were
all Republican, Herrera said. She said she did not know the exact
number of ballots, and she did not immediately know the precinct
number.

She said one particular presiding judge in one particular precinct was
in charge of several bad ballots. Bad ballots, with affidavits sealed
in inner envelopes, were Democrats, she said. The good ballots, with
affidavits in the outer envelopes, where they belonged, were
Republicans, she said.

She said she did not know the political party affiliation of the
presiding judge.

"The staff said it looked like it was a Republican presiding judge.
But I don't know," she said.

17. Correct me if I'm wrong but....
wasn't the NM margin just about 6000? With just over 5400 Democratic ballots back in the mix doesn't that mean we should be close to turning NM blue?

when one term ends. Nixon asked for the resignation of his entire cabinet.

I don't think the resignations per se are worrisome - at least no more than worrisome than the "re-election" itself.

Resignations From Presidents’ Cabinets Not All That Unusual
LexisNexis analysis reveals last five administrations have seen their fair share of quitters

DAYTON, OH, October 01, 2004 - George Tenet’s resignation in August from the top CIA position in President George Bush’s administration is small potatoes when compared to other presidents who have had high-level people step down, a search of LexisNexis® has revealed. In fact, most administrations have felt the impact of departures of high-ranking leaders from cabinet and advisory positions. LexisNexis U.S. is a leading provider of legal, news, and business information services

8. This is classic PURGES of all opposition voices. The Fascists can not bear
to have any dissenting voices. They have to present a solid front. Remember STALIN? Remember HITLER? WE have to stop these mad men NOW.

12. Maybe they are all seeing how corrupt and foolhardy Bush is.
I think that they are also resigning because of demands by Bush to lie. They are no longer willing to pay the "price of loyalty".

but perhaps Colin Powell's conscious will finally get to him and he will blow the whistle on the whole crime family.

13. I keep thinking
That it sure would be nice to have an "inside guy" turn stool pidgeon on *. Colin Powell is the most likely candidate, imo.

Let's say he goes off, and no one pays attention. Rove will paint him to look like a loony and probably won't see any repercussions. On the other hand, let's say he gets taken seriously, and can provide evidence and testimony from others to back up his claims. He could conceivably become the next SecDef for Kerry. So the way it turns out, by quitting, Powell keeps his job.

One thing to consider: When Tenet resigned, people claimed this was because someone who worked for the Executive Branch couldn't testify against the administration. Now, not only is Tenet gone, but there are also a bunch of disgruntled, left-leaning spooks being let go. What do you suppose they know that could get Bush in trouble?

Are there any cabinet officials that may turn on *?

I see this exodus from Washington as a good thing. These are the people who will rat on the rats.

15. Colin Powell has no conscience.
He orchestrated the My Lai coverup in Vietnam. Seymour Hersh made his name unmasking Colin's work.

They all are going out to make the big $$$ as lobbyists , book writers, speakers, etc. Typical strategy on both sides, to perform some "public service" and then cash in...
Watch where they land.
