Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Gonzalez is Clarence Thomas with brains. The brains make it tougher to nail him; but his public record makes it much easier. He has a rap sheet long enough to put him out of government for the rest of his career. This won't be an Anita Hill, "he said, she said" brawl.
This is the first appointment of a "moral" administration? A man who has denied the Geneva Conventions? A man who signed off on all the executions Bush reveled in in Texas? This is the message Bush has to send to America and the world about the Rule of Law? We don't punish lawbreakers, we promote them? Welcome to the American version of the reign of Henry VIII. Inconvenient laws, just have someone fix that for his highness.
The Democrats have to come out fighting this thug. The pukes will say we are anti-Hispanic, just like they said the opposition to Thomas was anti-black. But it won't wash if the Dems grow a spine. Cluephone calling wanna-run-again Kerry - put up or shut up.
The Dems need to pull out the facts and get them into the record. This guy is unfit to be AG. He has a royalist concept of the Presidency. He says the President can do anything in time of war, and (how convenient) Cheney says we are at war for the forseeable future. While they are at it, the Dems can ask him about Abu Ghraib and Valerie Plame before they fillibuster him to death.
If the Democrats rollover on this one, they will rollover on every single appointment in the next term. Tell them: fight or die.
