Animal Cruelty
GRRR I HAD to vent..

I went to Wal-Mart (yes I know BAD place but it is the only grocery store within 20 miles, other than Publix and they give money as well)

Anyway,

Came out of the store with my cart and went to put the groceries in my car. I heard a dog bark close to me and I looked up. What I saw horrified me.

There was an older truck with a flatbed, on the edge of the flat bed somebody had built a crate that was MAYBE 4X4 ft. In the crate was between 4 and 6 full grown dogs, with no water, no food and not enough room to even stand. I was revolted and PISSED. I saw other people looking and stopping and shaking their head, I went over, got the Tag # and the discription of the vehicle. A few people stopped and said at least someone was doing something and then one lady looked at me and asked me what was wrong. I stood up looked at her, and said "If you have to ask that then you have a big problem" and I walked away.

I called Animal control they are on there way there to do something.

I am still angry.. People are complete assholes.

1. Yes - when I see people with animals in their trucks
in the back with no restraints - I pull up next to them - roll down my window and give them HELL! I ask how they would like to ride under the same dangerous circumstances.

YOU DID GOOD! :toast:

2. Thank you for acting for those poor dogs.
There are not many compassionate people when it comes to animal cruelty.

3. Were those hunting dogs?
If so, that's the way they are transported. It doesn't hurt them (really). They're just glad to get out of their pens and go hunting.

6. Reasoning? Uhhhh.......They're dogs. They don't give a damn if they're
bunched up for a little while. It doesn't piss them off. They don't care.

I don't know if the dogs the original poster saw were hunting dogs or not. The "dog boxes" hunters use at least have enough room for the dogs to lie down. I couldn't tell if the original poster saw hunting dogs and overreacted, or the dogs were really being abused.

About not having water, hunting dogs find water to drink when they're out in the woods.

8. I don't think they were hunting dogs
and one thing I didn't mention was the SMELL. The whole vehicle had this putrid odor.

The dogs kind of looked like beagles in the face but bigger...

Also there was a litte chow dog sitting on top of the car leashed to the window.
Why would you take a little chow hunting?!

We are about 30 miles from the hunting area of the Ocala National forest. There is a wal-mart right there, I would think if he had come back from or was going hunting he would be at that store.

All I know is that it was awful, I had tears running down my eyes and was PISSED. Let animal control handle it. On the phone they said it was cruelty and was an emergency and they were on their way there but they said they probably wouldn't be able to call me back right away.

10. I was going to mention
the smell that hunting dogs, especially 'deer dogs', have. For some reason, I didn't mention it in my earlier post. They get sweaty from running all day and have that distinctive putrid/pungent odor (dogs actually like it-- I've seen them roll around in a rotton animal carcus to apply "dog perfume").

The 'beagle looking, but bigger' dogs you describe sound like deer hunting dogs. I can understand how the situation looked "cruel" to someone who is not familiar with using dogs to hunt deer. However, I have never seen a hunter mistreat his hunting dogs and I doubt the dogs were in any distress. I have been on several hunting trips where dogs were used to jump up the deer. Like I said, the dogs are happy to get out and run around in the woods.

5. Wrong
That is not the way hunting dogs are transported. They are transported in individual carriers that may be part of a larger carrier, NOT in a "crate" with no room to stand that is too small for the dogs in there.

No, this is just some fool being cruel to dogs.

9. dogs
My hunting dog sits in the front seat beside me! He is always well watered and fed! If he needs to take a dump his Purina farts warn me in advance! Anyone who would treat an animal poorly needs to be locked up! He also has his own bed right beside mine! Anyone who chains down a dog or makes them stay in kennels is abusing the animal. This includes boarding a dog in a kennel that does not take them out 3 or 4 times a day! I love my dogs!
