Freaking Fundy Childhood Friend giving me the red ass
He won't stop sending right-wing emails and trying to goad me into a discussion of current Repug events. It's like he want me to sever the ties after 40 years.

I refuse to get sucked into it.

So now I reply to every single email with:

"WWJB: Who would Jesus Bomb"

and/or

"War stops a Beating Heart."

Lets see how long until he tires of it...

3. Sends them to work.
We are fine when we talk about anything else.

But he turned into a fundy X-tian at some point over the years.

2. If he sends you Snopes-debunked stuff...
...and you respond to it with a link, be sure to cc: all the other people he sent it to.

9. I did that once too...
To one of the emails my high-school aged niece sent out. It wasn't even really political - just correcting some of the quotes in a "stupid quotes email" she sent out. Some right-winger had changed some Dan Quayle quotes to Al Gore, so I replied all attributing all the quotes to the right person. Some punk in her school then started harrassing me, threatening to "kick a mudhole in my chest" for being a liberal. I told her about it, and she laughed, telling me I was three times as big as he was. :) I kept up a dialogue with him for about 200 hundred emails, just goading him and offering to meet him at the McDonalds in his town (where my mom now lives to be closer to my sister and her family) and buy him a Happy Meal before he kicked the aforementioned mudhole in my chest. He never took me up on it. :)

8. Send him the Sermon on the Mount
"Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall inherit the Kingdom of God" I think is how that goes. Check Matthew for verification.

10. Clever responses won't work - he thinks you're enjoying the "game"
A lot of bushco voters seemed to view this election as a sports event or something. Just a friendly rivalry, all in fun, yuck yuck.

I suggest telling your friend that you do not wish to discuss politics or religion with him, and if he persists in sending you emails on those subjects, you will delete all his emails unread. Then do it.

19. I've done exactly that with a dear, but misguided friend...
Edited on Tue Nov-16-04 02:09 PM by ballcap1776
We've agreed to disagree. She's a former Dem and pro-choicer who married for a specific lifestyle...she's now the Stepford wife of a smartassed Repig lawyer who can't think for herself. Of course, she has the house she wanted, the designer handbag and expensive clothes she thinks she needs and the ideal car, her kids are in private schools and wear only designer clothing -- GAP is for "play." (edit: oh and I wanted to mention she repeats the whole, "I think Fox News is the best channel, they are just so fair and unbiased. They always have Democrats on to talk..." sheesh...she's been brainwashed for money and clout.)

I keep the faith though, I keep thinking that the "image" of the perfect Repig life will eventually come crashing down and I can help her find her way back to reality. Scary that a friendship would melt down to that, eh?

Keep the irritating friend on the line, at least marginally, s/he may need help when the fairy tale bombs. (literally)

11. Read Leviticus and Exodus
You'll find some amazing things in there to hit him with. And it's so much fun to turn the Bible around on them- most don't even know what's in their own holy book! They start to treat you like you're the proverbial Devil quoting scripture.

Plus, read Matthew and send parts to him. There are some wonderfully liberal messages in the teachings of Christ- unfortunately these people just ignore His message.

For example-
Matthew 25:31-46 "When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. Then the King will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? And when did we see thee sick or in prison and visit thee?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?' Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.' And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

Sounds like Jesus would love a liberal.

It won't be long before you are able to ask him what he thinks of the draft or how Clinton couldbe responsible for two recessions after he left office.

If he continues, report him as a spammer.

Sever all ties to him, he's not worth the effort.

21. I have one like that
I send things like the letter condeming *bush from leaders of the Methodist church. I fight back with Christian Values and have learned to find it fun to do. Send him bible verses that point out what Jesus would do and question his love for God. Trust me, that will stop it after a while.

23. I use a cool program "mailwasher" that simulates dead email addresses
(if you want it to), you can "bounce" messages from certain people.
I think it's free but I did send the programmer a few bucks for the "pro" upgrade, you might wanna have a look:
