A parallel American Reality.
Because history gets written by the winners, we have been fed a version of our history that on serious examination would not stand up to scrutiny by sentient human beings.I will limit myself in this post to events that have happened since the War on Vietnam. At that time, Nixon and Kissinger kept expanding that war into Cambodia and Laos without Congressional authorization.William Shawcroos pointed out in his excellent book that Kissinger engineered a Double Entry Bookkeeping of targets that were hit by American warplanes. One entry had the actual version and the other one, shown to Congress, had the fictitious version. Thus was born a deliberate deception that has, in true tradition, continued to expand until now we have a full fledged parallel government not accountable to anyone.

During the Reagan Administration, it was widely believed that the Iran-Contra scandal was simply an exchange of weapons to Iran in return for the hostages.I believe this was a red herring to hide the true scheme which was revealed by NSC staffer Gary Sick. That was the drug smuggling into this country by high level people in the US government, the proceeds of which were used to finance the war against the Sandinista Government in Nicaragua and the propping up of the right wing militias in El Salvador. The ouster of the Panamanian dictator Noriega was due to his dipping into the ill gotten gains of the drug proceeds.

Having essentially hoodwinked Congress, the Right Wing ( composed of the elder Bush,Cheney and Rumsfeld) now became more ambitious and was intent on establishing a permanent regime after Mr.Bush I's ratings went through the roof after Gulf War I. Even that War as revealed by
Mr.Perkins in his excellent work CONFESSIONS OF AN ECONOMIC HIT MAN had nothing to do with Saddam's invasion of Kuwait. The true reason revealed by Mr.Perkins was Saddam's refusal to buy into the protection racket offered by Bush to Saddam, the same deal the Saudis have acquiesced to. In that deal, Saddam was to accept payment for his oil in dollars at a price to be set by the U.S. The dollars that he would receive will have to be recycled back into the U.S. as infrastructure contracts for Corporate Behemoths like Bechtel and Halliburton. Others who would also benefit would be security firms that would offer protection for Saddam and his entourage. When these
inducements failed to move Saddam, he became the bad guy and was, of course, taught a lesson during Gulf War I.

The takeover of the U.S. Government by the Right Wing was set back by the loss of Bush I during the Clinton years. At that time, I clearly recall Hillary Clinton saying Bill Clinton was offered a deal by none other than James Baker to throw the election to Bush I in return for his support in the elections to follow. When that didn't materialize, the demonization of Clinton began in earnest. He was dogged by one allegation after another until he was impeached by a rubber stamp Congress in which even Democrats like Lieberman were recruited by the Right Wing to denounce an elected President of their own Party.

I often wondered why Clinton continued to bomb Iraq for eight years after the Gulf War I had come to a close. Now I realize that he had no choice because the Right Wing was the real power behind the throne and he was afraid of his own authority being undermined by accusations of treason.

This parallel Government ,of course, has reached full flower with the fraudulent ascendancy of George W Bush and his total embrace of American Hegemony as the goal.In his total contempt for our Constitution, our International Obligations, and his delieberate deceptions he is a worthy heir to Nixon, Reagan,Bush I and assorted Right Wing fanatics. Even his tax cuts, which have been cloaked in the language of jobs, are essentially a way to finance the parallel Government by permitting Corporate giants like GE, Lockheed and other defense contractors to profit and divert part of the profits to fund the operations of this parallel Government. The readiness of the media to cave in to the demands of this parallel Government is in no measure due to their realization where the real Power in our country resides now. The fig leaf of elections that grants Bush the semblance of authority he needs is just that--- a fig leaf. This is why it is possible for the Right Wing to be so assured of the outcome.

All in all, we are partially in Totalitarian Territory. All it would take is one more calamity in the socalled War on Terror for the Right Wing to completely abrogate our Constitution .Our people have already been conditioned by the years of propaganda to not merely accept this, but actually welcome this.

1. Just a nitpick here on terminology.
Double entry is a system of bookkeeping that assures accuracy. Keeping a double set of books is what you are saying where the correct figures are kept in a hidden journal and the cooked figures in a book open to scrutiny. You don't want to lose your meaning in the translation.

Thanks for a good thoughtful post otherwise.

5. Nice assessment.
You've helped me sort out my own considerations on this.
Thanks.

My questions always come back to motive.

What the fuck are these clowns really doing, and why? Is really just a crime syndicate?

6. During the Watergate years, Nixon made a comment that the
American People are like children, they do not know what they want. The belief of the RW that our people are incapable of making judgements that are in their best interests, has given them the reason to establish a Parallel Government. All my analysis flows from that.

7. On follow up, yes it is indeed a criminal enterprise.Unless the
Democrats muster enough boldness to deal with them on that basis they will never win any elections in this country anymore, from Dog Catcher of Muskegon, Michigan to the Presidency itself. All the talk of strategy and appeal to reason are worthless in my opinion because they are dealing from a stacked deck, period.
