Texas schools to use ID computer chips to track students even on buses....
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 11:51 AM by ElsewheresDaughter
these wireless chips will be linked directly to police computers too......does anyone have a link to this story?

TRACKING STUDENTS 3 (NYT59)

SPRING, Texas -- Nov. 15, 2004 -- TRACKING-STUDENTS-3 -- Police Chief Alan Bragg monitors student arrivals and departures in Spring, Texas, on Nov. 4, 2004. The district is equipping 28,000 students with ID badges containing computer chips that are read when the students get on and off school buses. The information is then fed automatically by wireless phone to the police and school administrators. (Michael Stravato/The New York Times)

3. The snippet from the article
doesn't say, and there's no link and I'm too lazy to hunting for the story, so I don't know what kind of technology is being used here, but I assume it's RFID (radio frequency ID) tags.

If so, yes, a microwave on high for just a second or two will do wonders to these cards. Even more fun, zap the id on your card and tape a new one to it -- or two or three.

I'm also sure it won't be too long before an enterprising student figures out a way to hack the central database linking students to RFID codes and starts "swapping" individuals' identities around. Something as simple as switch all the boys with all the girls, or suddenly making people pop-up in several different places at once, except where they really are. The potentials are unlimited.

9. Hmmm... How'd you like to be the guy...
...hauled before the princpal and your parents because they have "proof" you'd been in the girl's locker room while people were changing there. Worse yet if they involve the police and brand you a sex offender based on the same "evidence"...

10. Hey! I recognize the guy in the photo!

Pardon my diversion here, but is there some reason that cops always have moustaches? I assume it isn't a mandatory part of the dress code, so there must be some psychological thing going on there.

12. Can you say, "Moo"?

The Holstein ID Tag Program provides Holstein breeders the opportunity to officially identify their animals with ear tags that are excellent for day-to-day herd management.

And they told us we were different from the animals.....

My daughter has yet to get one. I have not heard anything about it, in fact. They have been doing this in Japan for years. It is an effective way of ensuring that everyone gets to where they need to be going. It is supposed to be a security issue. I am sure all the fundies will protest it saying it is the "mark of the beast".

17. IIRC, the reason for this has to do with...
a law suit concerning the loss of a child on a bus. I do some work for one of the businesses involved in this. Don't have a link handy. Sorry.

18. No. They don't think this is the mark of the beast. But...
they are very concerned about the Verichip. It is an RFID that is planted under the skin. I won't say the Verichip is the Mark of the Beast, but I still won't get one. Of course, I won't ever need one anyway.

20. need more info
Hmm, as a mom I`m not sure I`d be so against an implant to track a child in case of a kidnapping, but to have something just hanging around the child's neck can be easily removed by a kidnapper.
The school system is lucky to have extra monies devoted to this.

21. If you'd be willing to let a governmental agency implant a tracking device
INTO your child, and there are a lot more people out there like you, then I truly fear for our nation.
