Questions For DU's Union Members!
First of all, how many here belong to a union, and did your union support the Dem ticket in the election?

Second of all, what has been the reaction of your union members to the re-selection of the Boy George? (Personally, I think the Repukes will now go all out to destroy what's left of unions in this country.)

Third, does your union manufacture goods (or services) that we union-supporting DUers can add to our holiday shopping lists?

Lastly, I wish I had suggested a "Union Forum" for DU as I think there are many issues of union-related interest to be discussed, but since I am not a union member myself I didn't feel it was my place to do so. Still, I would like to see these topics discussed more often.

Thanks for any input.

1. Unions
I am not currently in a union, but we are attempting to create a union for our little college faculty here in Vermont:

We don't have any products to offer save for the future of our country. Not being a Republican, I don't know how to put a price tag on that.

2. Carpenters Union here
They did not publicly back either candidate. I am really mad at the union right now. Every time you see Chimp on TV with Union Builders it alway the Carpenters. I think the union stance is way to Pro-Schrub.

Most were mad. Some voted for Shrub over "Moral Issues". I wish we could have them thrown out, but what can you do.

I would enjoy a union forum, Great Idea!!!

Do you live in a union state or a right to work state? Do you think that those members you wanted to throw out would leave the union if you were in a right to work state?

9. One of the reasons I would like to see a union forum...
... is because there's a lot of misinformation out there regarding unions, which have been getting a bad rap for years. For instance, there's a thread on LBN regarding a hike in the minimum wage and some posters have opined that unions would have no benefit for minimum wage workers and would only end up hurting small businesses. I don't know enough about unions to even respond to opinions such as those.

Then there are other types of questions, like why the Carpenters in particular would, as you said, support a GOP administration.

Finally, it would seem to me that if unions want to increase their membership a concerted education and outreach effort is needed. DU would seem like a good place to discuss these issues. I for one would like to be better informed.

Unfortunately, I DON'T get the UAW pension. ;)

Also, Mr. K is a member of the Carpenters Union, and I totally agree with what you have to say, Eagle. McCarron has got to go. The regional council system, too.

6. I'm a former union worker ( UFCW )...
but I recall the local's voter recommendation card endorsing Clinton/Gore. I doubt they would pull a 180˚ and suddenly endorse some piece of shit chimp.

10. National Air Traffic Controller's Association - we endorsed Kerry
It's been a long-standing concern that the government would attempt to privatize us. Kerry committed not to do that.

With at second Bush administration, that concern is increased.

In addition, the FAA has not been bargaining in good faith recently and appears to be taking the first steps towards ending collective bargaining (though they deny it).

We're concerned.
