Nice quote to use against the "DeLay" tactics:
January 25, 1993, in the House of Representatives. Rep Curt Weldon decides to put his two cents' worth on the discussion of "ethics":

"In a recent Washington Post interview, Senator Jesse Helms said of congressional ethics reform: `We need to do something to reassure the public we're not a bunch of folks sitting in a back room doing favors for each other.' "

I think that this quote should be spread around a LOT.

1. Jesse said that?
Well, I think that I'll make that my new quote of the week when I email my outrage.

3. Hard to believe we'd actually long for old Jesse, eh?
Yes he is a hateful bigoted old bastard, but at least he played by the rules and respected them. He & Paul Wellstone had a great deal of respect for each other.

5. Any friend of Wellstone....
Yes, I have to say that Jesse was old school. He did believe in propriety.

4. Yup. About the time that they were pushing for those rules that
they just rescinded JUST FOR DELAY.

2. To late. I would say most of us currently believe that. And
it seems to be the way Washington has worked for a very long time.

7. or how about these:
"What are we going to tell the children?"

or

"We must respect the rule of law."

We heard them enough during the impeachment. Now we have this thug running roughshod over the system, and what do the Repukes do?
Why, change the system so that there won't be a penalty.
Why didn't Clinton think of that?
