Can anyone explain... Tom delay & Chris Bell
I have not been following this.
I am watching CSPAN and Tom Delay with a bunch of his gang members are ripping Chris Bell apart for false charges.

I thought Tom delay was a crook.
Is this another Democratic failure???
God, I can't take it anymore

1. DeLay had created a political group in TX for which
he says he did not have any day-to-day operations knowledge. The men running that group have been indicted under Texas law by the TX AG for accepting corporate funds for a state Legislative race, which is against Texas law.

The repukes are saying Bell over-stated DeLay's legal problems (smear), but DeLay is on the verge of being indicted himself.

The Pukes are covering for DeLay (by relaxing their ethics standards) out of gratitude for him swinging six more House seats to the pukes by getting Tx redistricted.

DeLay has also been in some hot water for allocating Homeland security resources to chasing down the Texas Killer Bees (legislators who went on the lamb to break a quorum for a special session for redistricting).

2. Chris Bell is a moderate Democratic rep.
In the redistricting, like many white Dem Congressmen in Texas, Bell lost out. I think he only served one term. Now, he's a lame duck. He took DeLay on by instigating ethics allegations in the appropriate House committee.

3. The Republicans control Congress.
This is only a Democratic failure to the same extent that everything which happens in Congress under Republican control is a Democratic failure.

7. Thanks for replying
Tom Delay and his gang members really fueled my anger tonight.
So pathetic was their glee and smearing of Chris, I knew that this guy is nothing but a lying, scum bucket.
It is just so sick to see them glowing angelically while smashing the Democratic party.
After, I saw Cris and his layer speak.
It sounds like Tom Delays problems are not over. He has more problems ahead.
Oh, I hope someone take this guy down!!!!
I hate when evil wins. It brought me back to Nov. 2nd.
Those feeling flooded back. I have been working hard to get rid of them. OR calm them

10. Here's an op-ed piece for you
written by conservative David Brooks for NYT:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/20/opinion/20brooks.html?oref=login&hp

Tom DeLay is bleeding and he doesn't even know it.

SNIP

But let's face it, the problem starts there. Tom DeLay is a scandal waiting to happen. He casts himself as the enemy of Washington, but he's really a conventional (if effective) pol who wants to use dollars to entrench power. He represents the greatest danger the Republicans face, bossism. He wants to be the G.O.P.'s Boss Tweed.

SNIP

You could begin to hear a slight shift in Republican voices yesterday. Several were looking around and noticing that they have a very good and effective leadership team even without DeLay. Hastert has gone from being obscure to being beloved. Roy Blunt is efficient and smooth. Eric Cantor of Virginia is a rising star.

When people start gossiping about what the world would be like if you were gone - as Republicans are now starting to do with DeLay - you are in the first stages of political decline. It means that members start regarding you with a little less awe, and they start regarding your potential successors with a little more.

He doesn't face an immediate threat. But the next time a scandal licks up against him, DeLay will find his support is not as strong as he thought it would be. He'll turn around and find that his caucus has remembered its core values.
