Coalition "Warriors"?

More and more we hear of US troops referred to as "warriors." This is an oddly Biblical term, one we are only recently accustomed to hearing.. We have Gen. Boykin and lately a Colonel (Chaplain?) of the Marines refer to the Iraqi resistance as "Satan." I have always been slow to believe in "Dominionism," but this bears at least some comments, I think? www.yuricareport.com

What Do Southern Baptists Mean When They Say “Kingdom Warriors”?

Bobby Welch now has a 16 million member draft pool from which “warriors” can be drawn, enlisted, trained and sent out to fight the fight of faith. But who do they fight against? In an Agape Press article by Ed Vitagliano, titled, “In the Culture War, the Church Must Never Flee the Scene,” the enemy is described variously as the “assaults of wickedness” and “evil in this nation.” But at last the truth comes out as Vitagliano writes:

“The battlefields on which Christians fight are not European hedgerows or Pacific islands, nor are they the winding, icy roads of Korea, the jungles of Vietnam, or the desert sands of Iraq. Believers battle in corporate boardrooms, in university lecture halls, before community school boards, around water coolers, in political campaigns, and over coffee at family gatherings. Those battles must never cease, nor must the church ever flee from the scenes of fiercest conflict.” <44> (Emphasis mine.)

A LifeWay’s ad on the same page as Vitagliano’s article pushes itself into the piece and offers itself as a “recommended book.” It is Sean Hannity’s: Let Freedom Ring: Winning the War Over Liberalism. At last the Southern Baptist Convention has tipped its hand. They are recruiting warriors to remove all liberals from political participation! (Cut)

It is one thing for men to humbly seek to worship God; it’s quite another thing for men to declare they are God’s representatives (or regents) on earth and therefore the rest of America must follow their edicts! This latter attitude is not freedom to worship—it is coercion! It is also the means to a national coup and it is evil and subversive to the core. Subversion under the fraudulent guise of “religious beliefs,” using the U.S. mails and communication systems, must be stopped for what it is: an unconstitutional means to destroy the United States of America by turning our nation into a theocratic dictatorship and steering the wealth of this nation into their own pockets.

Sinking like a lead weight!

There has been a lot of romanticizing of the military, and use of language like "warrior" instead of soldier, G.I., etc. seems to be part of it. It has overtones of the Prussian militarism (pre WWI) that I have read about.

I think you have a point about how it plays into religious imagery as well. The Bible (old testament anyway) is full of warrior talk, after all.

Of course militarism and fascism were always quite ready to use religious language and symbolism when doing so helped to advance their goals.

they've started putting up signs for the "warrior's ethos". That's the only place I've really seen warrior used except for anti-war rallies ("Support the warrior, not the war" signs). I don't read the post's weekly paper but I'll look through it this week.
