Kerry e-mail to me tonight
Sorry if this is a repeat

I want to thank you personally for what you did in the election -- you rewrote the book on grassroots politics, taking control of campaigns away from big donors. No campaign will ever be the same.

You moved voters, helped hold George Bush accountable, and countered the attacks from big news organizations such as Fox, Sinclair Broadcasting, and conservative talk radio.

And your efforts count now more than ever. Despite the words of cooperation and moderate sounding promises, this administration is planning a right wing assault on values and ideals we hold most deeply. Healthy debate and diverse opinion are being eliminated from the State Department and CIA, and the cabinet is being remade to rubber stamp policies that will undermine Social Security, balloon the deficit, avoid real reforms in health care and education, weaken homeland security, and walk away from critical allies around the world.

Regardless of the outcome of this election, once all the votes are counted -- and they will be counted -- we will continue to challenge this administration. This is not a time for Democrats to retreat and accommodate extremists on critical principles -- it is a time to stand firm.

I will fight for a national standard for federal elections that has both transparency and accountability in our voting system. It's unacceptable in the United States that people still don't have full confidence in the integrity of the voting process.

I ask you to join me in this cause.

And we must fight not only against George Bush's extreme policies -- we must also uphold our own values. This is why on the first day Congress is in session next year, I will introduce a bill to provide every child in America with health insurance. And, with your help, that legislation will be accompanied by the support of hundreds of thousands of Americans.

There are more than eight million uninsured children in our nation.

That's eight million reasons for us to stay together and fight for a new direction. It is a disgrace that in the wealthiest nation on earth, eight million children go without health insurance.

Normally, a member of the Senate will first approach other senators and ask them to co-sponsor a bill before it is introduced -- instead, I am turning to you. Imagine the power of a bill co-sponsored by hundreds of thousands of Americans being presented on the floor of the United States Senate. You can make it happen. Sign our "Every Child Protected" pledge today and forward it to your family, friends, and neighbors:

This is the beginning of a second term effort to hold the Bush administration accountable and to stand up and fight for our principles and our values. They want you to disappear; they are counting on that. I'm confident you will prove them wrong, and you will rewrite history again.

Here is what I want you to know. I understand the strength, commitment, and passion that are at the core of what we built together -- and I am determined to make our collective energy and organization a force to be reckoned with in the weeks and months ahead.

Let's roll up our sleeves and get back to work for our country.

Thank you,

John Kerry

3. no, I think Kerry's comments are very interesting and deserve the space
I'm not real sure what to make of parts of it though. But I think he meant it when he said that he had our backs.

5. It is interesting, and perplexing. The line about "weeks and months
ahead" makes me think that he does see a battle coming up. May just be when they are back in session, but he didn't say "years" ahead. He's talking short-term here.

I'm not sure what to make of it either, but it's late and I'm pretty brain-dead now. (Been up since 3am)

I am certainly ready to pick up the fight, there's much to do with Booosh on the rampage, cleaning the house of any dissent and all. It would be a shame to waste the energy and momentum that built up in his base and just let everyone pack it in until "the next time". This was one of the first time when a huge percentage of the population even got involved in politics and an election.

4. Possibly short-sighted
How could Keith or anyone else know for sure what's going on just yet?

There might be great value in Kerry not being behind the recout efforts thus far. Things would surely be more charged if Kerry were demanding recounts.

If the election was stolen, I say we allow the guy who won the opportunity to call the shots on how to proceed. Hell, we just voted for him.

btw, am I the only one that was bothered by osama and Kerry being compared?

7. You mean, like when Bush said, repeatedly,
of Kerry, that "he can run, but he can't hide."

Just like he said of Osama.

Yeah.

You mean, like when pictures of Max Cleland, and Osama, and Saddam, were flashed up as if they had something in common, in the ads that were part of the campaign to defeat the popular incumbent Ga Senator (the other part of the campaign was to install Diebold electronic voting machines statewide in Georgia for the 2002 election).

Yeah, that does bother me. Hitler used to demonize his opposition too.

See this for details of how it all works. Great site:

Project for the Old American Century

excellent list of qualities of fascism

In "Fascism Anyone?," Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, identifies 14 characteristics common to fascist regimes. His comparisons of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Suharto, and Pinochet yielded this list of 14 "identifying characteristics of fascism."

6. I got that email too ...
Kerry says "This is the beginning of a second term effort to hold the Bush administration accountable ..."
Heh, well, good luck on that.
The Bush* administration thinks itself as accountable to no one -- they do what they want to do.
I'm not giving up, but I'm not terribly optimistic about what we can do to counter a second Bush term.

8. I agree with Olbermann
and that was what I picked up on -- a present tense sort of thing in what Kerry said. I have re-thought my anger and disappointment at Kerry's stance. I now believe that "all good things come to those who wait." What else is Kerry supposed to do? I just hope and pray my take on this is dead on, and that there's enough evidence to toss the shrub back to the ranch.

<I now believe that "all good things come to those who wait.">

Yep! And we all know that Kerry is brilliant and we also know that this is not his first seemingly impossible to win "rodeo" either! He's brilliant and determined!

:kick:

Kerry is right about our grassroots effort... Keep on kickin' and let the GOP know that WE ARE NOT GOING AWAY!

Ohio & Florida (and where else) is not over until it's over! But, regardless he plans to fight for us. We should all signup for the legislation too (From "We, the People" to introduce it!)- I signed it as soon as I got this letter today... :
