Kerry's e-mail
In Kerry's e-mail on children's health care he also wrote,

"I will fight for a national standard for federal elections that has both transparency and accountability in our voting system. It's unacceptable in the United States that people still don't have full confidence in the integrity of the voting process."

I was wondering what everyone thought of this.

1. I think Kerry is done
The best thing he can do for the party now is step aside, take a long vacation, and not come back.

Of course, this won't happen, and we'll spend years hearing how he is now an aggressive, progressive leader who will take the Party into a new, brighter future.

"Here comes the new boss
Just like the old boss..."

2. Well, at least he takes the heat off Gore!
I'll bet Kerry can't wait until the next democratic presidential candidate steps up to the plate--and loses.

5. I disagree
I don't want him to run again for president, but he has weight and we need him to use it in the Senate. I find him to the right of the center, but if he is going to introduce a bill to make health care available to all children in America, I don't mind if he sticks around in the Senate.

6. The Best thing Kerry can do is keep opposing Bush, which he is doing.
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 07:58 AM by emulatorloo
Knowing your history w Kerry, I am taking your comments w a grain of salt.

I was glad to hear strong language from Kerry painting Bush's policies as extremist, and Bush's "reaching out" a sham.

The video the email links to is well worth watching.

The best thing Kerry can do for the party is to continue campaigning against Bush and his policies, which apparently he is doing. I like the idea of a people sponsored bill on health care. And I like the idea of Kerry standing up to the reactionary policies of GWB.

8. unlike the majority of those who ran, Kerry is still there fighting
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 09:05 AM by bigtree

like he has the majority of his career, on our side. Interesting how his record revealed an affinity for most liberal causes and he was attacked for this. I fully expect him to be at the forefront of change and standing firm against the extremes of the opposition, as he has throughout his career. I'd like to know where these wonderful folks are/were that you expect to defend our interests and values. Likely outside of the system where they can safely throw stones without accountability from constituents, or hopelessly marginalized by a muddle of idealism without a concensus to get their ideals accomplished. Sen. Kerry has shown time and time again that he has the wisdom, temperment, and experience to help accomplish our agenda and stymie the opposition as he did with the Artic drilling standoff and with his cops on the beat leadership.

Show me who your champion is, where he will exercise his/her authority (if they have any), and what their agenda is. You're so comfortable throwing stones at a man who is serving and has served the interests of our party and the American people with positive effect.

3. Wish he'd woken up to the election problem prior to 11/2
But I am not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. We need SOMEBODY in congress to speak up and speak loudly. We don't need some namby-pamby suck-up like Lieberman and others saying, "Oh, yeah, if you want to appoint a liar like Condi Rice to SOS, we'll be happy to confirm her!"

I am sick of the wishy-washy Democrats, afraid to stand up to the Repukes as they destroy our Democracy. No more rubber-stamping their programs.

4. No more rubber-stamping
I hope they use her conformation to seriously attack Bush, but in the end I don't really care if she gets through. Because anyone Bush appoints will follow his lead. Still, we should put up a fight. What I really care about is his judicial appointments. That is where it actually matters and we have to stone wall him.

7. "we must also uphold our values"
"stand up and fight for our principles and our values"

I like the way he established in these slight sentences that Democrats have values that are at risk from this administration. He didn't do the squeamish, soul-searching on the issue of values. He just asserts that we have to defend ours. I like the forward approach.
