4. This sort of boycott is unfeasible.
What's really needed more than an impossibly long list of companies to BOYCOTT is a list of ALTERNATIVES.

To be effective a boycott needs to be organized and targeted and the objectof the boycott needs to know that the damn thing is happening and why.

10. My suggestion: pick the top 5 offenders and offer alternatives
My suggestion: Instead of this ridiculously long list, choose the top 5 offenders and offer alternatives.

Like:

"1. Home Depot gives $XXX to the RNC and $XXXX to Bush. Instead shop at Lowes or Brand X."

With the corporations supporting Bush at the rate they are it's near impossible for some people to avoid them entirely.

With the exception of Circuit City I probably don't spend much on any of the others on your list, but I live in a location where that's easy.

Others have different situations and instead of these long lists of things to avoid, people need options.

5. Not sure shell should be on the list
They are one of the better ones. The majority of their contributions are individuals, not PACs, and of the individuals, the majority of the donations went to democrats.

8. Yes, the big banks - most if not all of them. They also are sending
computer jobs overseas. AOL/Time Warner should be on the list.

Most I don;t even go to now. Will have to look things over. I hate Walmart.

14. I always maintained an AOL account for when I traveled
Edited on Sat Nov-20-04 02:23 PM by Downtown Hound
Yesterday I called them up and canceled it, and told them why. The guy on the phone seemed almost hurt and very shocked when I told him. He said that he'd never had anyone cancel for political reasons before. Believe me, businesses don't want massive attention to their political dealings. If enough people do this, it's going to have a profound effect.

On edit: I always shop at Safewway, but no more. I will write them a letter and tell them they've lost me as a customer.
