I am not republican or democrat. I don't identify 100% with either party... though I am more liberal. I don't like either group.. I don't trust either group. Not so much the people in the party as the politicians representing them. Politicians are all pawns for corporations.
I don't think many people in the US trust the government either, regardless of who they support. And I think too many people make assumptions about a party because of the name... which I why I haven't identified myself with any of them.
I almost didn't vote in the last election, because I didn't want to lend legitimacy to a process that really doesn't give citizens control. We've all been told voting is a right so that we can hold government officials accountable... but does it really matter? Politicians don't listen to people who talk to them. They listen to groups of people with money.
I still have hope for this country or else I would have left already. I'm optimistic, but major reforms are needed. It is not as simple as getting congress or the white house controlled by democrats, because while they may have respect more for certain civil liberties it doesn't end there... those people still are going to listen to their financial backers and there own self-interest over the citizens of this country.
What are some changes people think would be necessary to make things more equal for people in this country and give the people a real chance to control what is going on in our government?
I have a lot of ideas. As many people have suggested before, instant runoff voting would be a good start.
