and more than 60% of them are churches! Their tax free status is in jeopardy. I just heard this on CNN. They may have crossed the line in this past election!

1. GOOD!!!!!
Keep God in the Churches where it belongs. Not in politics, not in the classroom and not in the courtroom. It's about time to tighten the screws on these screwballs.

3. Wanna bet they are targeting African American churches?
You think they're going to go after george's friends in the white protestant churches or the Catholic church? No fucking way.

17. That's my thinking too. No way is this administration going to
allow the IRS to come down on white Christianity.

7. Bull Sh*t, no Bush will EVER allow a church to be affected by the IRS
unless it is a Democrat church. The Bush IRS will probably go after some non-profits, but they will all be Democrat non-profits.

8. I am relieved it is no longer "a veiled threat."
I actually got a mailing from some agency telling me that the IRS had no standing in silencing the churches, or pastors, from engaging in politics. Their statement was something like "it wouldn't hold water against the First Amendment."

I thought that was odd, since it came from an evangelical publisher, and their attempt to inform us was blatantly "tell your churches to vote for Bush."

If I still have the mailing, I may submit that to the IRS!

10. It's actually 501(c)3 and it's about time!
I do tax compliance for a private foundation and we are scrupulous in vetting our donations, heavy support for habitat. And here we have these "scofflaws" using money donated to them for their own selfish purpose, promoting their political agends!

16. Yes! Yes! Yes! Those stories about churches trying to sway parishoners'
votes demanded a response. And what gets me -more- is that *'s faith-based initiative money was in effect channeling money to support his own campaign. Wasn't it the Rethug Natl Committee site that posted 5 'suggested sermons' to be given throughout October about the importance of electing *?
