Was Bush breaking up scuffle in Chile staged?
November 21, 2004, 8:37 AM EST

SANTIAGO, Chile -- President Bush stepped into the middle of a confrontation and pulled his lead Secret Service agent away from Chilean security officials who barred his bodyguards from entering an elegant dinner for 21 world leaders Saturday night.

Several Chilean and American agents got into a pushing and shoving match outside the cultural center where the dinner was held. The incident happened after Bush and his wife, Laura, had just posed for pictures on a red carpet with the host of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his wife, Luisa Duran.

If there was a real scuffle going on, do you think the other SS would let W get anywhere near it? They should have tackled him to the floor if he tried to get in the way. There was no way to know what the scuffle was about and/or if there was a threat to the president.

The only reason that he would be allowed 'to break things up' while having it caught on film, is if Bush and his SS guys had planned to start the scuffle to begin with. Otherwise they have to be the most inept bunch of empty suits anyone has every met.

Reminds me of 9-11 when the SS let him just sit there in an elementary school full of dignitaries and children.

2. Makes you wonder what kind of major breakdown in security this was
If the SS can be separated from the President this easily. What does it say about the procedures.

3. Staged? Maybe. If real, he was NOT breaking it up. He was like a kid
grabbing for a teddy bear to save his ass from the boogey man.

5. Here's what I wrote on by blog about this story
"I'm sure once this shit hits the reactionary fan the story will come out that ol' chicken-lips pulled the SS agent's fat out of the fire, proving once again what a he-man is our pResident."

6. I saw that article this morning as was deeply worried ...
I feel more and more as though I am in Act I of Richard III. Here's this would-be despot trying to project this image of himself as 1/2 warrior and 1/2 saint. God help us all.

7. Of course it was staged!!!!!
There is no way he would have been allowed to wade into that crowd for real...and then did you see him shake his head as he walked away...was that security guard fired? It was soooooooo staged!

9. Weird. I checked Google news for the scuffle..
I got two different photos for the bodyguard that Bush "rescued"

this one on a news channel

Did the Chilean police give the bodyguard a haircut?
