2. Yes, by then they will have no choice.
Because we will be fighting half the middle east, and our economy will be indistinguishable from Stalin's war communism.

I am now calling that for April 05.

7. Look at some of the morons who have already lost kids
who seem desperate to find higher meaning in it than having their children slaughtered on the altar of Halliburton greed and an old man's vanity.

Shoot, look at the Vietnam vets who could never come to terms with Kerry telling the truth about that war, who cling to their dreams that it was a glorious and in the name of some higher good and that telling the truth about it was somehow disloyal to all the vets who served there.

It's a mindset, and we're not going to change it. Only tragedy on top of disaster on top of catastrophe will make the cognitive dissonance intense enough for them to start wondering if they'd been lied to. The sacrifice of a child alone won't do it.

8. Well, there's this one family........
that was on a special about religion and politics, that would still trust Junior Bush.
They don't let the kids see gratuitous violence, but they let them see that S&M movie about the torture of Jesus. The daughter "accepted Jesus" at 3yo because she knew she was a sinner, and that she would go to hell if she didn't. The mother said that if the "rapture" came at that moment it wouldn't be soon enough for her.

23. CNN, right?
That redheaded little robot girl was very disturbing. Such a little parrot, poor dear. Wonder how much shrink time she'll need to get her head screwed on straight, assuming she will ever be able to escape once she meets the age of majority.

9. Yup they will
Too many times during the campaign I'd ask couples supporting Bush if they'd sacrifice their child for Bush's war and not only did I get a "Yes" but a STRONG YES.

I think they were all lying sacks of shit wanting to talk big but of course never back it up (it's alot like those college students who swear they are gonna enlist cause they support Bush and his war) but sadly I think many would sacrifice their kids for the idiot boy, and then would rejoice in knowing their kid is in heaven having died for a Godly cause.

Praise Jay-sus!!

11. Bingo. We have a winner.
The draft issue was smart politics to try and scare people, but it will never happen.

Scaring people may be "smart politics", but the politics of fear are not good.

17. I disagree
Right now I am watching John McCain on Meet the Press as he says we have a few months (not years -- his words) to decide what to do about Iran. (not Iraq, IRAN) He also mentioned 80,000 marines and 20,000 army troops (someone help me out if you saw it, I think he was saying MORE troops). He also said he doesn't think Israel should take Iran on pre-emptively and that well if it comes down the U.S., oh well, it just may be up to us. (slightly paraphrasing, but that's the gist).

WHERE, are all these troops going to come from? Earlier in the day he said they need an additional 50K troops, and that resources are very strained.

18. U.S. troops could me moved ourt of the following places without a draft:
1. Kuwait - Iraq is no longer a major threat ot Kuwait.

2. Saudi Arabia - Iraq is no longer a major threat to Saudi Arabia.

3. Germany - The Soviet threat has remarkably diminished.

4. Increased volunteer recruiting - The current state of military recruiting is very low. If there was an increase in recruiting resources and a recruitment poster on every street and an ad on every website, that would be more effective.

Also, you assume that an invasion of Iran is a foregone conclusion from something you say once, fleetingly, in a discussion of hypothetical situations.

22. The troops are already out of SA and many of Germany's troops have
already moved. The ONLY way they can avoid the draft is to throw enough people out of work here, which they are doing well with, and the cancelling of the Pell grants will garnish quite a few.

They have no troops to spare.

12. Sure
People's politics largely remain the same in spite of great tragedy. Usually, it reinforces their preconceived views. That's just the way it is.

24. Johnson and Nixon, for starters
I believe a targeted draft is in the future. Medical personnel, mortuary personnel, police, fire, civil engineers, civil affairs...that's just for starters. Then, they'll run around to all of the gun clubs, hunting clubs, and scrub the NRA memberships for anyone handy with a weapon. We need cannon fodder, y'all....

If we go into Iran, China will have something to say, and I doubt it will be "Howdy, Partners!." They get most of their oil from those guys. WW3???? It COULD happen...

15. The will willfully goose-step into the meat grinder.
Let them take the *bots first. It will only piss off the repuke parents first when their kids die, thus making them instant democrats. That's how it usually works. It's come to this. We humans are wretched creatures.

20. RW newspaper in my town (Richmond Times Dispatch)
had an editorial yesterday calling for mandatory 1 year service for all persons (men and women) between 18 and 23. No big surprise that they would come out with this after the election.
