Man...Some People Are So Stupid
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 11:40 PM by EarlG
I just read this story and found the members involved so incredibly stupid I had to share.

I would laughed my ass off if it wasn't so sad that it happened right before Thanksgiving.

Five Shot Dead in Wis. Hunting Dispute

November 21, 2004 09:59 PM EST

HAYWARD, Wis. - A dispute among deer hunters over a tree stand in northwestern Wisconsin erupted Sunday in a series of shootings that left five people dead and three injured, officials said.

The alleged gunman, a man from the Twin Cities area, was arrested Sunday afternoon at the line between Rusk and Sawyer counties, according to Sawyer County sheriff's officials.

The violence began shortly after a hunting party saw a hunter occupying their tree stand, Sawyer County Chief Deputy Tim Zeigle told KSTP-TV of St. Paul, Minn. A confrontation and shooting followed.

One of the shooting victims radioed back to the deer shack for help, he said. When more hunters came to the scene, they also were shot, Zeigle said.

4. It's so politically incorrect, but I thought it was funny, too.
I mean, it sounded like a spoof - it's getting so hard to tell reality from parody. Of course it's a tragedy for those involved, but in a black humor kind of way, it's a statement about us - and hence the humorous aspect.

People flipping out at ballgames, hunters shooting each other, the pretzeldent allegedly protecting his body guards... you get the feeling our nation is becoming rudderless, leaderless? Our churches are PACs, our wars are immoral, our economy is ruthless, our representatives don't represent us, out news is Orwellian... it's getting hard to not feel it spinning out of control.

So, we laugh at the black humor. I am sorry for those hunters and their families, it's not them that I laughed at: it's us.

I fail to see the humorous part here.

Was it the nut who shot them you find funny?

The people who were wounded and probably used as bait per classic sniper technique?

Or those who were trying to help their friends and died for their efforts?

Really I am curious. Please explain what's so fucking funny about it.

33. And what's funny about that?
Here in NYC, a drunk ran over and killed a few people while they were crossing the street. NYers continue to cross the street.

This was an unusual, to say the least, occurance. Why would someone give up crossing the street because of this? Why would someone give up hunting because of this one crazed man's rampage?

IOW, if you think this is a good reason to give up hunting, then somone is definitely coming to a bizarre conclusion.

In what way should those hunters change their behavior because of this random tragedy?

8. Ahaha! Republicans are being killed! Funny! Christ, guys.
Are we or are we not better than freepers? Imagine if this was a pro-gun Dem group that went out and got all shot up, and the freepers were laughing about how Dems shouldn't be allowed to have guns, and how they're trying to ban the guns of those who can use them because they can't, and how they're too inept to even go hunting.

So five people dead and three injured is a tragic bombing in Ramadi
So five people dead and three injured is tragic civilian loss in Falluja
So five people dead and three injured is a national tragedy in a school
So five people dead and three injured is a laugh riot when it's hunters.

Yeah. Gotcha.

9. I thought it was a goofy story at first too...
then I found out that the perp was a 36 year old Hmong man from St. Paul who flipped out (PTSD?). Hmongs are absolutely hated in that part of the state and I am afraid that the backlash will be bloody. This is a tragedy all around.

39. Evidently
This has been a problem for sometime in the area. The Hmongs (at least in this instance) have found it hard to come to grips with the western concept of property rights.

As far as backlash is concerned I don't see some redneck driving up to a Hmongs yard and blasting him and his family.

PTSD? The Hmong said that they called him names. Hardly a reason to shoot someone .....even a repug.

Our thoughts should be with the dead and their families.

10. What you have tonight is a community in shock and despair
There is NOTHING remotely humorous about this overwhelmingly sad incident.

Six people are dead. These were residents of a small town in northern Wisconsin. These deaths affect the whole community. People are in shock in Rice Lake tonight as they mourn the loss of so many in their community.

This was senseless. It is not yet known what happened except that the accused killer, a Hmong resident, was hunting on private property and was asked to leave, as is within the property owner's right, whether the property is posted or not. There was plenty of public land on which to hunt in the vicinity.

There are sometimes tensions between Hmong residents and the caucasian majority in this part of the country, but they center more around the Hmong people's tendencies to hunt according to their own traditions, which are often in conflict with the local game laws.

Please don't leap to conclusions until we have more information. And please keep the families and community of all the victims in your thoughts and prayers.

Jeanny

Had these 8 victims been doing mountain bike trail maintenance instead of hunting deer, you wouldn't be laughing. To laugh when 6 people are killed is disgusting.

You say that you found "the members involved so incredibly stupid." For what, getting shot? You are apparently to intelligent to have tragedy befall you.

15. missing the humor
It stuns me that anyone would see any humor in this.

The race of the people isn't really relevant to anything either, is it? Unless that leads to backlash and more tragedy, of course.

27. Updated Story
...deep in a thick Wisconsin forest on Sunday, for reasons authorities still can't fathom, a St. Paul man who was asked to leave another hunter's deer stand began to do so and then turned and opened fire on one of the landowners and his fellow hunters, killing six and wounding two, authorities said. The suspect had apparently gotten lost earlier that morning and wound up on the private property.

The victims were all from the Rice Lake area of northwestern Wisconsin. The dead were identified as Robert Crotteau, 42; his 20-year-old son, Joey Crotteau; Al Laski, 43; Mark Roidt, 28; Dennis Drew, 55; and Jessica Willers, 27, daughter of Terry Willers, one of the landowners, who was also shot.

Five were killed on Sunday. Drew was critically wounded and died early Monday evening at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been flown at 5:15 p.m. Monday from Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.

Some of the victims were shot more than once, authorities said.

Do you still think this is funny? A man on someone else's property flips out and shoots a bunch of un-armed innocent people. This isn't a democrat vs. republican issue, this is a tragedy.

28. Yeah, and what's even stupider
is that every other channel on my TV had that story on last night, along with the other one about the NBA brawl, but there's an outrageous billboard in Florida that you won't see on TV. Perhaps they'd care to cover it if it had Saddam Hussein or Hitler or Stalin on it.

34. you can't be serious
"...a little cleansing of the gene pool isn't always a bad thing..."

I am going to make the assumption that you made this statement seriously.

I would be interested in hearing the reasoning behind that statement in a little more detail. As it stands, I cannot fathom how I could have anything in common politically with someone who would make this statement.

How many other people in the Democratic party feel this way, do you think? How many are sympathetic to or tolerant of this point of view?
