....we are well-informed. We follow mainstream news but go beyond to try and make sure we have the facts.

speaking of which here is a big one, to me, and it points out the big difference between us and the Freepers:

all of us seem to follow, to some degree, a sort of scientific method in arriving at our political beliefs....we try to gather as much information as possible and based on the facts, take a position on this issue or that. As new information becomes available, we incorporate it into our view of things, re-examining our previous conclusions to see it if comports with the facts. learn more, re-examine views, learn still more, scrutinize our positions, and so on.

the freepers, the creationists, bible-thumpers and those on the scale from newt gingrich and tom delay to robertson, falwell etc., seem to practice a kind of pseudo-scientific method: They pick a position based on feelings, impressions, and their set-in-stone outlook. Then they seek out information that supports their conclusions. Any information that DOESN'T fit with their perceptions/opinions/positions is either ignored or explained away. Bush's stance on global warming ("climate change" to those people) is an example.

And wisdom to me means you realise you never really know, you keep searching and learning and open to listening to others. You can always learn from others.

Also modesty.

We have faith in common.

Faith in our value of equal protection under the law FOR ALL.

Faith in our Democratic beliefs, no matter how far apart they may seem, they are really very close.

Faith in our candidates, we work for them and vote for them and support them and gripe at them and have faith in them.

Faith in ourselves, our beliefs, our right to be and believe.

DU is a great place for shared Faith of all shapes and sizes and forms.

I personally have kept that close to my heart as a sign of dems' morality, a naive belief that scoundrels will do the right thing despite all evidence to the contrary.
