August 2001: Bush too busy worrying about unborn Americans to prevent 9/11
Edited on Thu Sep-04-03 06:26 AM by NewYorkerfromMass
Let's call Bush on this one folks: His pro-life zealotry clouded his agenda (fatally) during July and August of 2001.
Yep, George W. Bush was too busy worrying about unborn Americans to plan for defending us BORN Americans from terrorists.

from Spinsanity 8/13/2001:

"A Newsweek story from the August 20 print edition of the magazine sheds some interesting light on President Bush's recent decision regarding stem cell research. In it, the authors report that Bush actually decided to allow limited funding for work on existing stem cell lines back on July 9, and spent the subsequent month gathering political and scientific support for his decision.

The Newsweek report contradicts both an assertion from Bush spokesperson Karen Hughes that Bush did not inform her of his final decision until the day before his announcement (the article notes that she started writing his speech in early August), and the Bush team's assertion that the President was struggling over the decision until just before his August 9 speech. (and of course he was planning his August vacation the whole time)......

Read the articles, the bottom line is: whether or not Bush was really "agonizing" or simply orchestrating the charade, he placed the value of the lives of the UNBORN over the rest of us, and allowed 9/11 to happen.

My point here is: We have to turn the single issue abortion voters on their man. Bush's priorities in the summer of 2001 were completely ass backwards, and 3000 died because of his warped agenda.

what Bush was ignoring those 2 critical months

1. 'Gathering support,' my ass!
Since WHEN does bu$h think for himself? Newsweak wants us to believe that he spent any amount of time "agonizing over a decision?"

Smells like bullshit to me!

2. And what a decision it was!
Basically, they spent the whole month trying to figure out a way to please the fundies and not piss off the soccer moms. Politics before principles--aka business as usual for BushCo.

4. Politics before national security
It's much worse when seen in the big picture.

3. It was all a ruse
We were supposed to believe Bush spent the month agonizing over stem cell research, in fact what he was doing was practicing his post 9/11 speech and fine tuning the Bush Doctrine.
