1. I don't know.
I think that if it was not for the Donna Rice thing, he could have smacked down Bush I in '88. Who knows, we may not even be in this mess now if he did that.

3. probably not
It wouldn't have been a 49-state blowout. But it still would have probably been a comfortable Reagan win - I dunno, maybe 53-46 or 54-45 as opposed to the 59-40 blowout that Reagan got.

4. Only if he'd shown pictures of the affair.

Gary Hart, huge potential, could have turned the mountain states and Midwest deep blue, really intelligent and talented. Except he had the 'curse'--hubris. Told the press 'bring it on' about his supposed affair with Donna Rice (little known daughter of Mandy Rice-Davies; a prize for getting the reference). Oops, there goes the nomination, the mountain states, the Midwest, and Hart. What a total waste of a brilliant career and first rate mind. Might have beat Reagan, maybe. Would have got '88 nomination and kicked H.W.'s butt...holy shit, two women (Donna & 'that woman), two * terms. Bummer

5. I think he had a better chance than Mondale
This isn;t to say Modale was not a betetr choice, however, Mondale was too associated with Carter, who in 1984 was not a popular figure. In one debate Mondale was even asked about Carter/Mondale when the panalist clearly meant Mondale/Ferraro.

I doubt anyone would have beaten Reagan in 1984.

6. No. Reagan was immensely popular after he got capped.
Nobody could have beat him.
