Dan says no it didn't come up, but I have a feeling that with the right wing control of the media that Dan Rather got the ax for taking on Bushco. It makes me worry about how his replacement will do.

1. Rather was to leave in May 05 -now it is March 05 - not a big change
guard story would not appear to have much of an effect.

But word is the review by outside folks (one of which is far right GOP) will spin like crazy to make Dan look bad so as to hide Bush's AWOL. THE REVIEW IS EXPECTED BEFORE YEAR-END.

:-)

3. Rather has been a flake recently.
It's been years since Nixon asked him "Are you running for something?" and he replied, "No, Mr. President...are you?" Rather has been sitting in...well, Walter Cronkite's chair...for years only because he was the biggest dog at CBS News.

He has not been courageous. He has been basically a news reader whose only unique quality has been his occasional goofy stylistic things like saying "Courage" in English and Spanish. He was unable to effectively work with Connie Chung, when most other anchors in small markets have worked well with their female counterparts (I wouldn't dare say "equals" because that's not why women are placed in co-anchor positions).

It's been a long time since Cronkite, and longer since Murrow. Rather allowed no possible competitors to gain a foothold at CBS News, so look for some long-time, bland reporter who hung on for years to wind up with the anchor chair. CBS News continues on a path of mediocrity.

Not that the other networks are that much better, mind you.

4. Rather has been the best of the news anchors for a long time now.
I think somehow he was set up with the TANG story. However it came about it was true. The whole country knows it is true. He is being sacrificed because he told the truth, never mind the documents he used. The corporate people at CBS caved.
