60 million people believe
There were 30,000 people in the World Trade Center. A plane slammed right dab into the WTC. Having received a briefing one month earlier saying "Bin Laden Determined to attack the United States" Bush thought nothing of this event, and said "There's one terrible pilot."

60 million people are not very bright.

7. again with the simplification
Take four numbers - 4, 60, 75 and 80.
What is the average? - 54.75
Three (or 75%) are above average, only one (25%) is below average.
True, those numbers are rigged, and the sample is small, but the percent at or below average is not necessarily 50% - it depends on the distribution. Also average can mean "median" which is defined as the 50% point - which would be 60 in my last example, or it can be more like a "batting average".
Plus, as you illustrate, it is about being informed, or mis-informed, more than it is about intelligence. Almost everyone is ignorant about alot of things, and most people will believe stories that fit into their weltanschauung.

10. Why use english when you can use German like a good little Nazi?
weltanschauung = worldview

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

4. Its missing the
While standing in a cold shower part. Got the expense of sailboat racing, without the character building aspects... (old saw: racing a sailboat: Standing in a cold shower, tearing up $100 bills, while going nowhere slowly)
