Wal*Mart Values
It doesn't matter how much money you have, a cheat is a cheat.

The University of Missouri is removing the name of a 22-year-old Wal-Mart heiress from its brand-new sports arena, a week after she was accused of cheating her way through college.

Elizabeth Paige Laurie's parents have agreed to allow the school to rename the $75 million Paige Sports Arena, which was built with a donation from the Lauries and opened three weeks ago, the university said Tuesday.

The university board will vote Friday on the proposed new name, Mizzou Arena, said Remy Wagner, the assistant to the board's secretary. "Mizzou" is the school's nickname. . .

Then, last week, Paige Laurie's freshman roommate at the University of Southern California, Elena Martinez, said in an interview on ABC's 20/20 that Laurie paid her about $20,000 over 3½ years to write papers and complete other assignments for her.

First they cheat their employees, then they cheat their customers, now they cheat in college.

1. I hate Walmart
I have a small business and Walmart sucks. They sell things below the wholesale cost. I can't compete pricewise. My best customers are the ones who won't shop there.

4. I'm one of them.
I refuse to shop at a wal-mart. Or a Shams club. I drive an extra 10 miles to go to Costco.

5. Walmart
We don't shop there anymore. My husband worked for them years ago, not a good thing. I have been advocating boycotting Walmart since they opened their headquarters in China. We shop locally.

7. I just joined the ranks of former Walmart customers.
Their personnel and business practices have gone over the edge, IMHO, and while their prices are almost too good to pass up (I'm retired on a fixed income), I've decided to pass them up anyway. I've joked that if Bush cuts my social security (as I'm certain he intends to), I may end up being a Walmart greeter and I do appreciate the nice, hardworking Walmart employees, many of whom are older and I'm sure being devastated by the Bush economy. What he's doing to our country is reprehensible. Let's turn him out!

By the way, welcome to DU, Ms_Mary. Glad to have you join OUR ranks!

13. I do my best to avoid Wal-Mart
but for some things I have no choice. Number 8 is being built as I type (within a 15 mile radius). This will make the 5th supercenter. We've lost so many other places to shop it isn't funny.

We use Costco and local groceries. I buy online a lot. But sometimes you need a widget fast and there's only one place (ok, 7 open places) that carry them.

I hope you're listed in the 'items for sale' forum. I was a small business owner for 10 years and would much rather do business with others for the items I need and want.

And for anyone else who wants a list of American made, union shop products, http://www.shopunionmade.org/

2. What a brat...
I stopped going to WalMart a long time ago because they are so blatantly greedy. It never fails that on the eve of any holiday there will be huge lines at the check-outs while there is only a handful of registers open. Why not put extra cashiers on when they know its going to be busy? Oops -- might cut too deeply into the profit margin.

8. Of course she cheated...why do the work when you can buy your grades?
What always cracks me up are the commercials about how much they care about their employees and how it's such a great place to work. Really? So, does that mean that everyone working today (on Thanksgiving) volunteered to work because they don't celebrate? Or, is keeping an employee away from family holiday events just part of how they care?

a few years ago ater a local newspaper ran an article about a local lady who worked there and was severely injured. wal-mart tried every way in the world to screw her out of her workmans comp, and tried to starve her family to death. after two or three back and neck surgeries they still had a man sitting outside her house to try to videotape her doing things outside. the woman could not walk to the bathroom with out help

10. I have fussed about WalMart for years.
Edited on Thu Nov-25-04 11:00 AM by tsuki
And since I am fringe lunatic, democrat, librul, social justice, my friends all just rolled their eyes. They love Sam Waltonofmoney.

Now it seems that I can't talk to someone, turn on the TV, or read something that is not negative about WalMart. Who did they piss off anyway? Seems strange that all of a sudden they are BIG news. Or am I paranoid...don't answer that....

11. Fame-ly vay-yoos
Fuck You Walton Family!

Fuck you, you slave owner wannabes.

Capitalism, my ass. It is nothng short of predatory business strategy taken to its draconian end.

Fuck you, WalMart, for putting out of business all the little guys wh you underprice until they die.

You are blood sucking maggots, sucking that blood from the very heart of what was once great about America.

Fuck you, Waltons, and that little princess you raised. Maybe she could find happiness hanging with that other princess of right wing, rich family values, Noel Bush.

14. If unearned benefits (welfare) are bad for many people, then great
unearned wealth is bad for many people (note there are exceptions in both instances. Can't argue that getting something for nothing is bad for some but not for others. Well, you can argue it but it is illogical. And it strikes me that unearned wealth is more corrupting than unearned benefits that enable a person to move out of poverity.
