Propaganda: Let's call a "spade" a "spade".
Synonyms: advertising, agitprop, announcement, ballyhoo, brainwashing, disinformation, doctrine, evangelism, handout, hogwash, hype, implantation, inculcation, indoctrination, newspeak, promotion, promulgation, proselytism, publication, publicity

This is a snip I copied here from www.thesaurus.com

When our posters share with us articles and other repub-touting items culled from various sources, let's start labelling them what they are - PROPAGANDA.

Can we fuel a re-introduction of this word into the American vernacular as the repub media has done with "moral values"?

1. The issue is, whether or not it's TRUE
From www.webster.com:

propaganda

2 : the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person
3 : ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause; also : a public action having such an effect.

Yes, we all do it, however, when the information is FALSE there's a problem. Bush & Co told lie after lie, and people still voted for him. I think you're right. We call a spade a spade and we call a liar a LIAR.

2. Truth can be "massaged" or "spun"...
so careful considerations must be made even when dealing with the truth. Is it the whole truth? Has it been manipulated? Lies are often mostly truth...just never the whole truth.

3. You're totally right, DebbieDee.
Funny how we grew up learning that the word "propaganda" was despicable -- a word that only applied to communists for keeping their sheep misinformed & controlled.

I use the word "propaganda" as much as possible in describing this administration's control of the news media & its own sheep. There's no other word for it.

An administration that cannot accept dissent of any kind, requires that an "oath of loyalty" be signed before one can hear the president speak, & requires $millions of police protection when he appears in public must have the media in its pocket to survive. People believe what they hear on tv & radio & this administration is going to see to it that the people hear that the administration is "wonderful". Plus, it's also in the best interest of corporations like G.E., whose defense contracts benefit from this administration's policies.

But we have to call a spade a spade. Call it what it is: PROPAGANDA.
