The government and regulatory agencies were set up to balance the power of the corporate with the power of the people. This is no longer the case, and our regulatory agencies are in an adversarial position against the very people they're supposed to protect.
The solution should be an obvious one. Erect a wall between public regulatory agencies and the industries they regulate, preventing anyone from the agency from working for a company he once regulated or their lobbying group for five years after he leaves government.
Until and unless we nail the revolving door between government and industry shut, we're going to continue to have the fox guarding the henhouse, and we will all suffer at some point because of it.
