I asked a kid this during the election who was wearing a W sticker. All I got was a dumb stare? Isn't it a legit question?

5. I have an alternative to "why aren't you in Iraq?"
I've been giving this a lot of thought, and from now on, if I encounter anyone - anyone - who claims to "support the troops," first of all I tell them, "Yes, I support the military, too, just like everyone else I pay 25 percent of my taxes to the military." That sort of startles them, as most people don't realize how much of their taxes go to the military.

And then I look them in the eye and say, "The best way to support the military is for you to volunteer at your local V.A. Hospital. Have you given blood for the combat forces? Have you written letters to those stationed overseas?"

Most people buy a magnet ribbon for their vehicle, stick it on, and think that's all the "support" they need to give. Hogwash. It's empty symbolism unless it's backed up by real commitment, just like a wedding ring on an unfaithful partner is empty symbolism.

6. I hate those magnetic ribbons.
Before the election I had several anti-Bush bumper stickers on my truck. Having just finished shopping at Costco, the woman parked next to me (with a yellow magnetic ribbon on the back of her car) & I were loading our goods into our vehicles. She kept glaring at me & finally confronted me about my stickers, saying I should support the troops & telling me I was unpatriotic and anti-American.

Turns out she picked the wrong day. My cart was filled with items like toothbrushes, floss, anti-itch cream, chap stick, combs, socks, etc. I have a friend who is a nurse stationed in Iraq & all that stuff was sent over there. I said to this pseudo-patriot, "Funny you should say that. I just spent a chunk of change on all these items to send to the troops in Iraq. What are you doing to support the troops?" Then I purposely looked at her stupid little sticker & said, "Oh I see, you're sporting a silly magnetic ribbon to show your support. I'm sure that's very helpful to them." She turned in a huff & I called out to her, "You need to re-evaluate your definition of patriotism!"

They are so full of themselves, so self-righteous, so hypocritical, so afraid to think for themselves. They are petty little people afraid of life & have no vision. I'd feel sorry for them if they didn't have such a negative impact on the rest of the world.

9. I have a personal theory on those ribbons
it's mass guilt. The 90% of Murkins that supported the war and ate the WMD spoon fed line because they couldn't be bothered to spend five minutes researching the facts (they WERE there) feel a little foolish. Instead of getting angry at the prez for lying, like children who can't get angry at an all powerful parent, they redirect their guilt into little yellow magnets.
Thats my theory and I'm stickin' to it.

10. You inspred this letter:
Now that the election is over and many are basking in the glow of victory. It is time for Bush supporters to put their money where their mouth is. Our military is having difficulty meeting recruitment, and our Guard and Reserves are under stress. If you approve of bush, you MUST support his war in Iraq.

Show your support for Bush's war by enlisting in the military. If you are too old, send your children. By not joining, or sending you children, you are not taking responsibility for your actions. Bush is your president, it is your war, you should bear the burden.

this is a first draft. If you want some input, feel free to suggest improvements.
