1. To cover up that most of the money goes to pharmaceutical
corporations...Bush's donors. And the photo ops with poor Africans is meant for suburban WHITE voters who want to believe he actually cares about Africa.

2. no shit sherlock
and no offense meant, I'm actually glad someone has said it

In the 1980s St Ronnie could ignore that "disgusting, brought upon yourself disease" but its the 2000s, now "Christian Charity" of a certain type needs to express sympathy but do nothing because their holy base wants them to do nothing about AIDS and especially in Africa!

5. MAN
Edited on Fri Jul-11-03 07:17 PM by Skittles
It's one thing to not give a damn about desperately ill people; it's another to make a show out of pretending you do care. I used to think Dubya was just a moron, led around by his puppet handlers. But seeing this latest carnival show and witnessing his complete indifference to the daily deaths of our soldiers in Iraq - I'm beginning to believe the man is a true sociopath.

9. Yes, a sociopath!!!
Who else could make a tour of Africa touting a $15 billion AIDS program while Congress is discussing cutting it at the exact same time? Only a sociopath. A stupid sociopath at that.

6. True, but he cares about the pharmaceutical companies he can fund.
The Bush dynasty needs to give the pharmaceutical companies as much money as possible; project BioShield, etc., and of COURSE make sure AIDS ravages Africa. After all, AIDS was synthesized in a U.S. government lab.

7. Well, of course not! Who thought so for even a moment?
Anything he does, he's got an "angle" to make money for his corporate friends out of it. Of course the drug companies will make money but there's something else.

I read on some board (sorry I can't remember where) that the money for African nations to fight AIDS is tied to a requirement that the countries accept Genetically Modified Food. Many of them currently don't permit importation of it.

8. duh, there's oil in Nigeria
and they want to either deploy American troops there or "contracted" West African troops. And yes, there is the pharmaceutical angle.

By the way, most of W's co-religionists--at least the fundamentalists I know (I know quite a few...) still privately think AIDS is a victimless disease and that its sufferers brought it on themselves--and actually show disgust at heathen, immoral Africans whose "fornication" has caused these problems. "Look, we don't have 20% of our population with AIDs, why do they? It must be because they have multiple wives, and rape children etc..."

BTW, anybody see today's LA Times, touching photo with W and his daughter "petting" elephants, who happened to have mated right in front of them. Disgustingly, the pandering whores at LA times portrayed with glee how delicately Laura and Shrub "covered their faces" and blushed.
