Walmart in China. Are the prices reflective of China?
I will not step foot in one of those dumps. After seeing the Walmart series last week, and the freaks now over there opening them, I wondered if the prices are reflective of the majority of the stock being made in China.

So if a shirt made in China costs 10 bucks at a Walmart here, how much is it in China? Is it reflective of them paying people a buck a day to make 50 of the same 10 buck shirt here?

Also since they are paying a buck a day for labor, how does Walmart force the price down on the suppliers in China if they are paying some person those slave wages?

That company disgusts me.

3. Chinese prespective
I lived in China teaching English. It is a great job. If you are single and out of college it is a great way to upgrade your resume and make connections. Chinese people are very polite. A college graduate from Beijing makes $1 per hour. But we were able to eat breakfast for four, my wife and two boys for $2.

I saw an interview of grand opening of a Wal Mart in China, the Chinese customer was very disappointed, she said that everything in the store was made in China. An American store selling Chinese merchandise in China.

There are certain items, such as Fisher Price toys that are not sold in China, but you can buy at a Chinese Wal Mart.

A Chinese store in China carries more quality merchandise than Wal Mart or K Mart at cheaper prices. The American buyers demand that the manufacturer produce an item for a certain price, so quality is sacrificed to produce the item. The Chinese would not buy such an item because they can get better quality and lower price.

Price is also dependent on other costs besides production costs.
I have a Chinese importer friend who explained that you can buy Sony products cheaper in California than Japan. Why? Sony sells the same price to the retailers, but in Japan they have higher wages, taxes, rents. Where as in California, lower rents, part time minimum wage jobs with no benefits.

4. Wonder if they have banners in the stores saying
"Made in China!" so that the Chinese know it is patriotic to buy there? Or will they realize that if Walmart can find slave labor elsewhere they can kiss their buck a day wages goodbye?
