The real story of the next decade will not be the wars in the Middle East,
but the emergence of China, India and Brazil as economic powerhouses. That, in turn, will transform many countries in Asia and Latin America into true democracies not beholden to the U.S. Venezuela is a good example of such a regional economic democracy.

These countries and the educational and economic transformations need to be the focus of the U.S. if we want to benefit from the widening of prosperity, peace and democracy. Our motives, already suspect, from
the many years of cuddling up to dictators and our propensity for wars at the slightest provocation may leave us incapable of benefiting from this boom.We need to change our attitudes and our behavior before it is too late. The imperial mindset no longer works. We need to give it up.

1. Good analysis
I think that the US militaristic/imperialistic tendancies are fast becoming an anacronism. Modern established states, such as Europe, realize that the new power will not be military but economic. The emerging superpowers in this field realize this too, I think. Even Inida has not upped the tensions over Kashmir lately, and China and Brazil want things peaceful because they realize that peace brings economic prosperity.

The US will very likely be passed by in this new economic age, and if we try to start a rumpus, the economic plug will be pulled, if this hasn't already been decided upon to do. Frankly, I think the only reason we are still being propped up by Europeans and other investors is their fear of what Bush might unleash militarily. However, these same people know that time and intelligence is on their side, and I am sure plans are being made to keep the US in check and out of the economic mainstream.

3. We need China to supply us with military parts
I think we depend on China more than they do us. Some critical parts to our missiles come from China. There's a scary thought for you.

4. Good point. The desperate search for profits and markets by our
corporations, has opened up opportunities for countries like China and India to benefit from our rapid descent. Our wars are going to add momemntum to this process.
