George Bush and Gun Control. Disbelief
My son and I both could be termed in relative terms as "liberal" Democrats. Probably our greatest character flaw is our interest and hobby with firearms. We also hunt.

A recent incident related by my son is very interesting. We frequently encounter, Republicans, NRA types, quasi militia, and other rif raff at the shooting range. Unlike many we encounter at the shooting range we keep our political views to ourselves.

Recently however my son did get into a conversation regarding George Bush. In discussing the assault weapons ban my son relayed George W. Bush position he would sign another assault weapons ban if it were to cross his desk. There was absolute dead silence on the range for at least 15 minutes as this was debated. Shock, denial disbelief, betrayal. It was one of the funniest events I have ever experienced.

John Kerry should have driven this home. Bush would have lost votes.

1. We have been saying this down in the gun forums for the past
year and everyone thinks we are nuts.

3. I doubt they can read.
My guess in their experience anyone who can read let alone write is nuts. The people my son was talking to I am sure do not read or turn on a computer.

I doubt if Republicans are really comfortable with an armed public.

I've seen your posts before Retired AF Dem. How's it going?

2. I agree, Bush is/was a sell out on this issue but...
John Kerry should have pushed this point home to the NRA fans.

Now that we have another 6 dead hunters in Wisconsin by a kook with an SKS rifle, we can get the NEW assault weapons ban back on track.

No one needs a gun that spews out 30 rounds in 5 seconds for hunting or anything else!

4. The SKS was not covered by the AW ban

So you want to have Congress enact a wider ban, covering even more types of firearms, and losing even more votes to the other side?

Please explain your logic.

No one needs a gun that spews out 30 rounds in 5 seconds for hunting or anything else!

All semiautomatic firearms "spew" exactly one round every time you pull the trigger no matter what they look like, and "need" is not a valid factor for determining whether or not a person should be able to buy, make, or own something.
