The media's portrayal of Bush did a complete turnaround in 2000
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 02:23 PM by glarius
As I remember it, in 2000 before he was chosen Republican candidate, the media was constantly referring to his sneer and hot temper...He was portrayed as a rather testy personality....Then, once the Republicans chose him as their candidate, it seems the media (because they were instructed to perhaps?) suddenly discovered how friendly, warm, and personable, he was....Since then the media states it as an indisputable fact that Bush is this lovable, "charismatic" person. He still comes across to me as he always did...a fawning, arrogant, zealot. I don't think I have imagined this change in attitude by the media. I really do think there was a big shift in how they portrayed him after he was the candidate....Am I wrong?
P.S.....I can't imagine why anyone would want to have a beer or glass of wine or anything else with him!!! :puke:

3. Er, a 360 degree "turnaround" brings one back to the starting point.
Perhaps you mean 180?

5. A Beere with the dude,???? What can he possibly talk about??
Seriously, ?? There are no new concepts, no advances for mankind in his brain.....he is not benevolent nor altruistic.

Rove is his brain and even Rove is lacking in altruism.

6. In 2000, Kerry was charismatic
Going to add some spice to a Gore ticket. Funny how people forgot that too.

7. They did the same thing with Reagan.
"He's starting a revolution"

"He's the best thing since apple pie"

"How can we critisize him, everybody loves him." etc etc.

8. media coverage issue answered well by Waldman 2004 book FRAUD on Bush Lies
Excellent coverage of this story -- how the media came to love George W in 2000 -- in Paul Waldman's book, FRAUD: The Strategy Behind the Bush Lies and Why the Media Didn't Tell You, chapter 4: "The Emperor's Fashion Critics: How to Make the Press Love You." I got the book on half.com for about $10.

Offers some interesting analysis of why the media bowed down before Reagan and Bush but constantly castigated Clinton and Gore.

I'm only halfway through at the moment so don't want to characterize the argument yet.

Waldman is exec. editor of political webzine THE GADFLYER

10. Bush puts his arm around the shoulder of those he's trying to convince
he is concerned about and calls reporters by pet nicknames and they pant like little puppies and fall in line....It's really sickening....

9. One of the best examples of this Face Transformation occurred when
Edited on Fri Nov-26-04 03:57 PM by CoffeeAnnan
a reporter asked him what books he has read recently. His expression made a deer caught in the headlights look like Isaac Newton! The following week on a socalled casual walk with the sycophant par excellence Chris Matthews he was shown walking the corridor with a biography of Winston Churchill in his hands!

Instead of meeting with the derision and contempt that he so richly deserved, Matthews the sycophant obediently pointed out what a student and admirer of Churchill this imbecile was.
