Pell Grants Cut Back! So much for the education promise.
I just read tht the new budget bill cuts back 90,000 Pell Grants.

We should keep track of all the campaign promises that are broken and use them in the next election. That alone would probably let us win.

So far - the Security Bill is dead - Bush backed it during the election but probably doesn't want it passed. Why would he add 50% more people to the CIA? Doesn't add up.

Education is taking a big hit.

The police bill that Clinton had has been completely rolled back. So much for funding our first responders.

Any others so far?

1. Bush and the military need more people to sign up
The idea of a universal draft is repugnant to middle class and upper middle class people. They don't want THEIR progeny over in the deserts of the Middle East securing turf for Halliburton et al. So, what better way to "encourage" people to enlist in the military than by making it the only way many working class and poor kids can afford an education?

An economic draft; Middle class and upper middle class parents can do much to help their kids (mortgage the house and help take out loans, these are options often not available to lower middle class/working class kids and definitely out of reach for poor kids). Keep 'em wanting an education and keep that education pretty much out of reach and the military looks more attractive, even with the risks of dying.

Keeps the rolls high and no draft for rich kids. Not that they would go anyway.

4. I speak from experience...I was in college in the mid 80s and
wanted so badly to stay in. I was footing the bill by myself with no help from my mom (she didn't have nor did she think I, a woman, needed to go to college unlike my younger brother). I even talked to the ROTC people at school and was told that I was too big (I weighed maybe 150 pounds then). That was the most nervous I have been, the day I walked up and into the ROTC building.

I did not support Reagan nor any of his policies, I just wanted a way to pay for my education. That's all. They didn't take me though.

5. He is not going to keep any of his promises in election.
They already had their whole agenda planned out - and it doesn't include stuff for the middle and lower classes.
