Only about 5,000 - 8,000 tigers left in the wild.
Around the turn of the century there were 100,000.

I keep wondering what a world without wild animals and forests will be like. Concrete for as far as you can see.

I'm glad the zoos are stepping up breeding programs and protection for the wild animals. I don't know if they can keep up with the deterioration coming with Bush's policies.

We are going to see a changed world. A lot of what is beautiful will be available to our children only in pictures.

2. Well, that ruined my day!
They are such beautiful animals--all the big cats just fascinate the hell out of me. I really worry about a race that does not THINK about the consequences of its actions.

5. Well, we are getting more and more mountain lions
I guess that's a good thing. They are here in Missouri but everyone just ignores the fact. They have been seen all around Kansas City. But they seem to stay out of site like the bobcats do, which is a good thing for them. There have been a couple hit by cars so we know they are here. And the DNA tests show they are native cats and not from other places.

3. Tigers are my familiar, my totem.....

This is very sad. Unfortunately, unlike say, bald eagles which can co-exist
with humans well, tigers and people are fundamentally at odds with one
another.

I was thinking yesterday how much more wild life was around when I was
a kid in the 60's. I can remember going to a local park that had a pond
full of crayfish, giant bullfrogs, and many colorful birds living in the reeds.
No park is like that now.

4. The loss of biodiversity is a HUGE story
and in the United States the MSM devotes barely any attention to this issue.
