Okay, Al Sharpton
to lead the DNC. What do you think about that? He could reach out to many people. I didn't know he was Pentacostal. He could kick butt and bring humor into a campaign, just what we all need.
I think he would probably catch many of the right off guard.

Run, Rove, Run........

2. Sorry, it will not work.
He has too many skeletons. I think that an African American leader is a fine idea. How about Mayor Webb or Delegate Norton or Congresswoman Waters (probably too liberal), or H. Carl McCall.

11. He has no more skeletons than Bush I or Bush II.
One thing, he isn't responsible for the deaths of over 1200 US soldiers and thousands of innocent Iraqis. I love the way we always apply double and triple standards to minorities in this country. It's ok for convicted felons (pardoned by Reagan) to be appointed to high government positions, but Al Sharpton as DNC head...no. It's ok for an idiot AWOLer to be placed in office as President. I guess I just don't get it.

12. I don't personally oppose him.
But, to the average American to whom we must appeal, he represents reverse-racist policies and anti-police stances.

3. Maxine Waters or Barbara Lee
I would like to see either Representative Maxine Waters or Representative Barbara Lee head the DNC. They have already shown they are not afraid to challenge the status quo and speak truth to power. They would really re-connect the party to his hard-core base: African-Americans.

I think they would be brilliant.

8. I would go for Barbara Lee.
I have seen her once on Hardball. She was awesome, really kicks Republican butt. If she would re-connect with African Americans that is great. As a middle aged white male life long Democrat I found her to be the most impressive Democratic voice I have heard to date. She gets my vote for her clarity, competence, grasp of issues and ability to deliver a message.

10. "Maxine Waters or Barbara Lee" - Damn straight!
Barbara Lee is my fav since the stolen election of 2000 and since she stood up ALONE to all those old crackers wanting to flatten Afghanistan after 9/11.

what's she up to these days?

Saw here on Bill Maher, she was articulate and well informed. Good spokesperson.

9. Another Fave: Alexis Herman
Although she has said she is not interested in the position, I think Alexis Herman would be great as DNC Chief. She worked very closely with Ron Brown when he was head of the DNC, and she was very effective in planning and organizing the 1992 DNC Convention.

I really miss Ron Brown. When he was head of the DNC he really made Democrats believe in themselves again. And he helped us to win again. There was no way Bill Clinton would have become President without Ron Brown by his side.

13. I'm gonna play the "Home" card here .......
Here in Maryland we have two great African Americans who might be good for DNC head (seems this thread has gone to "which African American might be a good DNC head).

Kwaesi Mfume, former congressman and head of NAACP. Well educated (Yale?), well spoken, handsome and charismatic, understand politics quite well.

Elijah Cummings, current Congressional Black Caucus chair and my congressman.

Both are men of honor and politically adept, both have a national name to a greater or lesser degree, both are Dems through and through.

15. Sarbanes *is* a good guy but he's ........ uh ..........
............ charismatically challenged. Our Senator Babs (Mikulski) is also a little bland to some, but I think she's a real firecracker. So "old Bawlamer" that I'm surprised John Waters has not cast her in one of his films.

16. How about Carol Mosely Braun?
She's a lovely spokesperson and a fine speaker.

She has a way of being incredibly positive while speaking clearly about the issues but is also quite good at defending herself.

My only problem with her would be those old questions of impropriety regarding an old boyfriend and Nigeria some years ago that lost her her Senate seat. Sorry, I don't remember the details or whether the issue was ever resolved in her favor.
